MINI B38 3-banger 1/4 mile testing

Hey guys,

Was able to get a 2015 MINI B38 automatic in for a little R&D and have a few metrics to share. The test car has a few thousand miles, automatic, 91 octane, B38 3-banger twin power turbo, etc.

First a little good news. The platform is fully compatible with the B48 Stage1 tuning we've already developed with the only changes being on the software side.

For testing I used a VBOX GPS based timer on a closed private track. The before and after runs were started in the same spot and I took the best of run of each configuration. Note I did not launch the car as hard as I probably could have as I was more focused on trap speed differences.

OEM tuning: 7.71 0-60mph (no roll out), 15.60@88.7 mph 1/4 mile
Stage1 tuning: 7.29 0-60mph (no roll out), 15.26@91.68 mph 1/4 mile

Overall a net improvement of .4ths 0-60, and 3mph in the 1/4. Not bad for a 5 minute install!

Is this the same unit you make for the R56 MCS and JCW engine (I forget the engine model, it's an N something)?

No the N18 motor uses something called the JB+ which connects to the MAF sensor. That tuning approach doesn't work with the B38/B48 motors so we designed a unique system just for them.

I second the question. Those graphs are very extensive and packed with excellent information yet I don't really understand any of them. Horsepower and torque, I understand. "This mod increases HP by x and torque by y." is right up my alley.

Obviously I'm not the target demographic for this product but I'm interested anyway.

Sorry, I don't have any dynojet power figures for the b38 as the car won't run on our normal dyno. I only have the performance figures shared in the first post. The most noticeable metric to me was improving the 0-60 time from 7.7s to 7.3s.

Hey Terry,

I'm very interested by this. However I have a few questions. Do I need to purchase a special cable for updates and do you for see any more power gains when the product is out of beta? Also, will there be a higher tuning solution after this and if so will there be an upgrade program?

Thanks
