F55/F56 Tuning of the 2014 MCS Trickling In
So do we have definitive proof that this is undetected once removed? I know with Cobb ap they flash the car, which most modern cars have a flash count in place. With this just being a piggyback, it seems very realistic it wouldn't be detected. I'm just trying to find any reason why the hell I wouldn't get this for my b38.
Terry. My understanding is that just ups the boost by 3 lbs. If the computer records the boost pressure of the turbo then they will have a record. We know they have a "black box" that will record everything during and before an accident.
Truly though if the jcw tune does the same boost increase thing....they would have trouble proving that you had damaged the engine in a court of law.
Any non Mini mod could void your warranty including an air filter - could make the engine ruin too lean, exhaust....tires, wheels, springs....etc.
If they want to play heavy handed..where is the line?

Honestly, people are acting like they have forensic examiners looking to see if these cars have been reflashed. Even if they could look up boost pressures it would be hard to discriminate between 2 or 3 psi. Boost spikes up pretty high on even stock cars, they would have a hell of a time proving that the car had the tuner on it. Of coarse tho, everything is at your own risk.
That's what the chap at Burger told me - 'once removed, it was never there'
As far as I understand the burger tune isn't a reglash of the Ecu. I think it's a device that plugs into the current Ecu and "tricks" the ECM into thinking it needs to run more boost. I think they explained it better a couple pages back, but for this reason once removed it's like it was never there.

It's a piggyback, not a reflash. I probably called it a reflash more than once and that's an oversight.
I'll try to explain it as much as I can.
BMS Stage 1 tune only add 2 to 3 psi on top of your stock.
So, if you are always doing WOT for a max boost, then it will register stock boost +2/3 psi.
And, in order for dealer to dig deep into the system (which they rarely do), you much done something else other than the tune that will trigger the engine malfunction.
As Terry and other forum members mentioned, it is a mellow tune. But since the power to weight ratio is very small. +2/3 psi does make a big difference.
In the case of a 6000lbs X5 or 6 series or 7 series, with +2/3 psi, you won't feel that much of a difference.

A few weeks back I temporarily removed my Burger kit when I took the car to the dealer (dripping wiper nozzle problem). I'd forgotten what the car was like before. The kit makes a very noticable difference. Quicker and much more fun to drive. It was well worth the money.
The MPG reduction all depends on how much fun you've been having. Steady driving on the freeway results in negligable MPG reduction. During aggressive driving my mileage has dropped to the low 30's MPG (reduced by maybe 8-10 MPG at the most)

Anyone have any thoughts of somewhere else to stick the BMS tuning electronic end. Maybe a sealed bag (zip tied) under the sure intake. I hate the way the wire runs into the battery compartment. Looks messy.
What if you cut a small notch in the battery compartment housing with a dremel tool, then routed the wire a different way?
That's exactly what I did with mine for the same reason. I had some heavy duty "Parts" baggies. I stuck the dongle in, doubled the bag over, zip tied and taped where the wire entered then stuck the whole thing under the intake snorkel beside the battery box. It's been in there for a month thru rain and heat. I pulled it the other day and it still looked pristine and just like the day I put it in. I will check periodically when I have the hood open but it seems like an acceptable spot to locate it.

Papa. That's great. I guess that is a good place as it would not get too hot. The front of the engine bay might be too much for it!
Thanks.
