2014 MINI Cooper S Taken Up to 250 HP by PP-Performance

http://www.autoevolution.com/news/20...nce-81010.html

The 2014 MINI Cooper S came out with a completely new engine and
a premiere for the British brand. Never before has any MINI used a
2-liter powerplant under the bonnet.

Since the car was originally developed to be as economical and light as
possible, it’s easy to see why. However, since BMW took over the brand
things changed more than a little.

While some criticized a couple of the decisions the Germans made, if it
weren’t for them, the MINI marque might’ve been completely out of the

Going back to the engine, the Cooper S model uses a B48 2-liter 4-cylinder
unit making 192 HP and 280 Nm (206 lb-ft) of torque, going up to 300
Nm (221 lb-ft)
with overboost.

The guys from PP-Performance thought about it and decided that wasn’t
enough. Since BMW can pull up to 245 HP out of the N20 engine used on
the 328i models, they wanted to do the same here, despite it being a
different unit.

Said and done! After careful consideration and a minor ECU tweak, the car
they had to mess around with put down 250 HP and 345 Nm (254 lb-ft)
of torque
, a considerable bump from the original values. Since we found
the Cooper S quite enjoyable with the stock engine in our review, we can
only imagine what madness lurks in this one.

I'm thinking Mini will offer some Power Up-Grade in the future for the 2014 MCS.

Terry

Salivating to hear more details!! How does it perform? Can the stock car reliably handle that kind of power, or do they recommend specific additional upgrades? Would love to know what kind of numbers the car can put down with that kind of power under the hood!!

I would say the motor can handle that all alone. Most manufacturers have to build in all sorts of contingencies into the ECU to handle things like John Q filling the tank with 87 octane and not have the motor grenade when they do. I bet if you tell the tuner you'll only use 93 or maybe 100 octane gas they tweak you a couple more ponies out of there.

they remove easily and are "invisible" but I'm pretty sure if Mini really wanted to deny a warranty they'll find out it was there. Typically if something breaks that is not a direct result of a tune they will usually honor warranty repairs. There are plenty of people who have horror stories and plenty of people who just risk it and get warranty repairs all the time. It really just comes down to your service department and if they are willing to overlook certain things.

Yes, I've worked with Terry (the owner of BMS) in the past and he is great. The tunes are legit and his customer service network is outstanding. Definitely 2 thumbs up from me.

disclaimer, I'm not affiliated with the company at all. Just a happy repeat customer

worry not, they aren't working any magic that a cheaper American tuning company won't.
