The cool thing is that everyone can make their own decision

I'm not doing anything, because I live in CA.

But, if this thing had CARB certification, I'd be giving it some serious thought.

He gave no reason? Sounds like he was stating a "personal opinion" not based on fact. I know no valid reason, other than an issue with your warranty, why this is not a good idea. There are a lot of people using the Burger Performance piggy-back tune with great results.

reading about this setup, it sounds a lot like the unichip that came out first for the R56 Minis back in 2008ish. Great gains from the start, but by bypassing ECU measures and not a true ECU tune, caused failures on several cars around my area. Am I incorrect on comparing the two components? Any news of a true ECU reflash and no hardware required for the F56 mini?

That's where the quality comes into the equation.
Anyone can make a piggy back tune because the way it work is as simple as tricking the signal.
How good will it be, that is the question. Track record and market share wise, Burger Tuning is known and being replicated by few different companies.
It is not hard to reverse engineer their product and make it appear nicer and looks more higher quality. It is just the "secret sauce" that the some of the competitor doesn't have.
Also, there is the user factor. Most user they buy, plug-it in and forget. While a few others, they plug-it in, drive it, wanted more, start playing with the variable themselves and blew the motor.
While ECU reflash is ideally the best tune possible, that's where the consumer are not ready for it. Based on this thread itself, 90% of the F56 owners concern so much about the warranty. I am not saying that you will not void the warranty by doing the piggy back system, but there is something you can do to not getting the warranty voided. On the other side, with ECU reflash, your warranty is 100% voided and you most likely can't resell the ECU once you are done with the car. 20 years ago, when dealers as still not smart enough and the manufacturer are in doubt about the aftermarket business. The consumer can have two ECU in the garage and swap the ECU when he need to bring the car in for a warranty (or at least remove the EEPROM).

They are very different products and implementations. To put it simply our Stage1 is a proven and widely used tune (we've been producing them since 2008) while the Unichip product you're talking about was a complete failure. Tuning is always a details business. Get a few critical details wrong and you'll have problems.

Terry, any changes needed, and/or have you tested on the new B46 engine?

Thanks!

I've not seen one yet. I don't expect any changes will be required though. It seems very similar to the N20 -> N26 progression we saw on the BMW end.

Can anyone with the burger tune give a run down of how the tune has been so far? I am definitley interested in getting the tune.

Does anyone have dyno results for the tune? Burger claims there are gains, but I would love to see a dyno sheet.

Finally, how bad is the increased turbo lag? One member commented on it, but it was never mentioned in other posts

If anyone can help finding out on how to turn on the dyno mode on the F56, Terry would be more than happy to run a dyno on the car.

I just installed mine yesterday and while I can not provide you with numbers I can say the difference is very noticeable throughout the whole power band. The car pulls significantly harder when you get on it compared to stock. My car has 3500 miles on it so I've driven it enough to say 100% this tune helps tremendously. Regarding turbo lag, it's there to a degree but then again you're going faster than you were before the mod so it's a non issue.

I also stopped by to see a friend of mine who actually works for a MINI dealership and if this is removed the dealership wouldn't have a way to even know it was there. So for anyone who may question that, I wouldn't worry. (Then again I don't expect to run into any issues with this anyways. It's not like Burger Motorsports is some new company nobody has heard of or is without a reputation.)

Burgertuning Stage 1 kit installed on a European COOPER S model.

First impressions, much stronger in the mid-range, now I feel the torque steer (95-octane gasoline, I have to try the 98 octane).

Rises better at all rotations.

Very good price for what it offers.

The box is big and hard to hide.

I put it in the battery compartment on top of the battery (far right hand side) and held it in place using that heavy duty velcro tape (plastic). So if it needs to be updated it can be removed/and put back on easily.

Down the road I expect we'll make a S2 upgrade kit for the S1.

Have you received your moduel yet? Thoughts? How will updates be uploaded to the module let alone how will you know when a update is available? Is it car specific or general updates?

If you are referring to the BMS Stage1 we post updated and info on our forum, n54tech, in the "other section" for MINIs, when released.

Terry, I looked at the n54tech/other sub-forum and couldn't find any thread for Mini updates. Are you saying that WHEN updates are available they'll be posted there? Or am I missing where they're already posted.
