F56 Upper Engine Mount Movement Issues Video

Hi All,

I have a 2014 Cooper manual.

There is a lot of movement in the upper engine mount. When I start it, you get thud when the inner part of the mount hits the outer part.

BMW replaced the upper and lower mounts in 2019 and 2020.

The upper mount looks ok, it just has a lot of play.

Is this normal? Please have a look at the videos.

So that moment is normal? I have to put up with the thud when it turns over and hits the mount? Or get a poly mount…

You might want to check out this link for more solid long lasting engine mounts. It seems a lot of the aftermarket designs and part availabilities are done in the good ole UK. The company is in the UK. https://www.direnza.co.uk/shop-by-pa...train?cat=1096

That movement in your first video, I would call that normal based on the design. OEM engine mounts are designed to make the engine smooth and noiseless in the cabin. The result is a lot of movement and flexibility of the OEM engine mounts.

Wow! If you want ZERO movement, get this guy:

The lower engine mount, the one many refer to as the dogbone mount due to it shape, is the one that controls the fore/aft movement of the engine. Replacements for that are relatively inexpensive and effective.

The upper mount has a new revision as of about October or so of last year that might last longer. Engine Mount 22118835566

I’d be surprised if it’s any more durable. BMW has been using these liquid filled engine mounts for a couple decades. They just have short service lives.

That said… OP may be interested in this thread, in which a member here describes reducing movement by filling the air gaps in the mount with 3M Window Weld:
