Hatch Boot Issues (Video)

Hi there,

I think that I've found a few threads regarding the issue, but I can't seem to find a 101 fix.

Two weeks ago I began to hear a rattle in the hatch, and over the past week the hatch seems to not catch every time I close it. I looked at the boot, and it seems to wiggle around at this point which would explain the rattle noise that I am hearing.

I've attached a video, and am curious if someone can point me in the right direction on where to tighten the boot. Perhaps I remove the plastic backing, and I'll find some bolts? Wanted to get the expert advice before I began disassembling.

Thanks in advance everyone,

I think you will have to remove the plastic surround and see what is there ready.

Thanks in advance everyone,
Lift up the luggage compartment board and remove like 4 retainer clips to that plastic cover which grooms the boot striker. After you remove the cover, you will definitely see where the bolts are, and they are loose.

Tightening procedures:
1. the boot striker can simply be tightened down with hex socket (I don't remember if it's 10mm or 12mm). But the striker base has lots of adjustable play room, so you'll need to be careful where the base sits as you tighten it down.
2. You can follow the paint scuff marks and match the original location for tightening first. Then as you finish first hand tighten, close the boot completely.
3. Go inside the car, fold down the rear seats and observe if the latch mechanism has fully engaged the striker. If the striker isn't secured at the correct location, the latch mechanism may engage the hook partially, and you will get a latch not closed warning. Worse, if you have reverse camera in your mini, that latch error will cause your camera to not work.
4. The latch has a two stage engagement, a pilot hook then a deep complete hook. So you'll need to get it right onto the complete hook to get away with the errors. Go back and forth with observing the striker and latch engagement and make your adjustments until you get it right.
