Squeaky clutch pedal

My 2015 base Mini has a squeaky clutch pedal. It is intermittent but happens a few times almost every time I drive the car. Maybe something like 1 in 10 times the clutch pedal is depressed it will make a squeaking noise. Usually does not happen twice in a row. I noticed it on the first test drive and the first time it happened I thought it was my sneaker sole against the rubber pedal cover. The squeaking sounds like a sneaker on a gym floor.

I did Google for the issue and came up with some hits. One of them suggested it was some insulation material making contact with the clutch pedal lever under the dash. The person said a Mini technician trimmed a little of the material so the lever didn't come in contact with the insulation any more and that fixed it for him. It's been kind of cold lately and it's not real easy to see anything down under the dash, so I have not gotten around to looking down there myself yet.

I've had the car a little over a month now and the squeak is not getting any better (or worse). It doesn't seem to hurt anything other than being a little embarrassing when a passenger is riding shotgun, but I'd like to fix it nonetheless if it's easy to fix.

Thats the clutch pedal bushing, Takes 2.

On older gen 1 and Gen 2 Mini there is a UHMW version, but not for the F56 one, I would just hit it with some wd40 and in the future we might have a solution,. Will let you know.

I got the issue taken care of yesterday. The squeak is definitely gone for now, but whether it comes back or not remains to be seen.

The dealership was very nice about it too - the car had 53,000 miles when I bought it, so it could not be a CPO, and only came with a 30 day warranty - but they fixed the issue for nothing. In truth, the fix only took them about 10 minutes, and it consisted of lubricating the pedal bushing. The service manager did it himself in fact. He told me that he crawled under the dash and sprayed a pivot point on the pedal, and then drove a lap around the dealership lot. The squeak was not gone. So he went back under the dash again, and realized the squeak must be coming from the pivot point at the bushing, which is above where he initially sprayed. He tested it again and this time the squeak was gone. Since then I drove the rest of the day and there was no squeak.

It smelled like WD-40 when I got in the car, though he didn't say what it was. So now I know if it ever does come back it's an easy fix that I can do myself.

See the picture of the pedal assembly at the following link. The part causing the squeak is the bushing at part # 5.

My clutch is getting so annoying that I wish that I had bought an automatic car..

Did anyone tried to replace the bushing? Did you need to remove the complete pedal assembly?

The outter bushing seems relatively easy to replace, the inner one i think I can’t even see it..

My 2015 base has a squeaking/creaking clutch, and it is very noticeable during slower clutch pedal movements. Up to speed, it is quiet. However, backing the car out the driveway, and shifting into 1st, I seem to feel it as well. It is definitely coming from behind the dash. I tried to spray some dry-lube onto the pivot point today, but it didn't seem to help.

Try some grease and if that does not work replace the bushings. Common on the gen 1 and gen 2 MINIs. You have to hit it on the barrel where it makes contact with the metal.

Fixed F54 clutch squeak.

Fixed with white lithium grease on the clutch spring shaft and spring top and bottom pivot.
used the tube to push it in.
Overkill I know, but it WAS annoying.

Clutch squeak fix.

So I've been battling this squeak for the past several months since summer started. Tried white lithium like above and it will be quiet for a week or two and it comes back. Also tried WD40 and itll only be good for about a week also.

Do you guys think its worth it to bring it to the dealer for them to look? I dont have factory warranty anymore but I do have a third party warranty. Not sure if they are just going to lubricate the bushing and be done with it or not.

A severe squeak will probably need more than some lubricant applied from the outside. Think you are facing disassembly of the linkage and probably renewing some bushings or other parts that show signs of wear. Then upon reassembly using a factory recommended lube.

Not sure what the dealer service will do. A tech could just spray some lube here and there. Which may help. Your car is probably not the first one in for this and techs may know best where to apply the lube. Assuming of course the opinion is it is a noise that can be fixed with some lubricant.
