Cross threaded lug bolt.
Cross threaded lug bolt.
Hi.
I was putting my winter wheels on and one of the bolt holes in the rear wheel has been cross threaded. I don't know how or why as I have done this every year for the last 2 decades.
So I guess I will have to get the rear hub replaced, correct?
Is the hub and the wheel bearing one unit?
How much do the mechanics charge?
Thanks.

M14 chaser?
FYI to all thread chasers!
Pretty sure BMW/Mini uses a non-standard thread for wheel bolts - suggest you confirm before said thread chasing!

I agree, make sure you have the correct thread pitch identified first. Second, don't use a thread cutting die, you should only use a thread 'restoring' die for chasing the threads. They seem similar, but really are not. You can do a lot of damage if you re-cut the threads vs a restorer that 're-forms' the thread material vs removal. Just my $0.02.
