Side marker S faded out.

I was washing my car and noticed the the red S on my side scuttle turn indicators has almost faded away. Has this happened to anyone? I'm sure the dealer will replace it since it's still under warranty. The car is a 2015 f56s which I do not keep garaged. None of the other S badges on my car have faded. Just those.

Mine have done the same and good luck getting the dealer to fix as mine have been faded since about 10 months of ownership and have pointed it out several times to the dealer and no luck.

Yes!

I have 32K on my car, and my drivers side is completely faded out. The passenger's side scuttle isn't far behind, either. I was going to mention it to the dealer the next time I go in for service.

This should be a warranty issue. Shorenetworks...sorry to hear about your trouble . What was the dealer's reasoning for not fixing it?

FYI I spoke to my dealer about mine last week, and they are replacing both of them under warranty (they just needed to order the parts). The SA was very nice and told me that they were covered (as long as there is no obvious signs of impact damage) .

So if your usual dealer doesn't warranty them, I would encourage you to try another dealer. They may be more forgiving.

Probably just mention that others have had their faded side scuttles replaced under warranty by their dealerships. It might inspire them, if they don't seem to want to do the replacement.

17k miles. March 15 build as well. Mine are completely faded to chrome. Took the car in for scheduled maintenance today. They offered to swap them out for new. Honestly I've grown fond of the clean look of all chrome and my car lives outside. The new ones would fade out anyway and they'd probably look crappy half way through the fade out to process anyway. I told them not to change them now and that I'd think about it. Apparently it's super common.

Tube of red touchup paint and a steady hand will cure it for good. If they do replace it, brush on some clear coat, won't fade again.

If that is a decal insert and even if it is a flow-filled paint, somebody mucked up the spec and didn't require a UV-stabilized material is what it appears to me.

I have had to deal with stuff like this on the products I build and am always a bit baffled when the designers 'forget' to add that requirement on the component prints. Luckily we have a UV life test on parts before they go into production and can catch this kind of issue before it gets in a consumer's hands.

If you decide to paint some clear on your "S", use an acrylic based clear, since acrylic is a natural UV filter and should do a good job protecting the red fill not only from weather exposure but also the sun's rays...kind of like sunscreen.
