F54 Intercooler pros/cons
Intercooler pros/cons
I have reviewed several of the older threads. a few questions:
1. There is a significant weight difference between the stock intercooler (around 8 lbs) and most of the after market ones(around 28-35 lbs). Will the added performance of the better intercooler offset the weight difference?
2. There are a few under $400 with reasonable reviews, notably the CTS ($399) and the rev9 ($315). Any significant difference between these two?
3. I live in an area that has around 30 days over 90 degrees per year and drive several hours a week for work. Will I see a significant benefit with an improved intercooler during the summer or would I just be wasting my money?
Thanks!

Ok I'll bite, but I don't have any first hand experience with the F54 intercooler.
1. Where are you getting these numbers? I upgraded the intercooler on my R60 and don't remember it weighing 30 pounds. I'd say 10ish at the most.
2. No idea on this one. The one I had was made by Helix for about $500.
3. I live in New Mexico where we get a lot of sun, and I definitely noticed a difference in the summer leaving work when the car was heat soaked. The rest of the year, not so much. Whether it was worth it--I'm kind of on the fence. I didn't regret it, but the cost/benefit isn't that great.
Other thought: can you still get the JCW intercooler? That wasn't available when I upgraded the intercooler on my R60, though it eventually came out. Our F54 JCW has an additional intercooler on the driver side, but I don't know if the regular one is any bigger than the S.

1. The CTS is 35 lbs: https://www.ctsturbo.com/product/cts...t-intercooler/
The Rev9 is 28.
For the F54 , there are S and JCW intercoolers and they are not interchangeable.

I have the CTS intercooler and it is heavier and you can kind of feel it.
After installing it you can tell it runs cooler and you can feel the bit of extra power it gives you, i'm happy with it.
I also installed mine last summer and the car performed better than stock, less heat-soak.
