Lightbulb skipping

So recently my engine has felt like it is skipping with hard acceleration when passing at freeway speeds. More likely to be electrical(plugs/wires) or fuel injectors/filters? At 60,000 miles.

I don't think they have been. I got the car at 23,000 miles as a preowned certified car. It is getting its 60,000 mile tuneup tomorrow. I will ask them to do plugs/wires then if it is not part of the service.

High pressure fuel pump failure causes this too.

High pressure fuel pump problems is almost always difficulty in starting the car.

I didn't think the 3rd gen engines had fuel pump issues...

So this happened again at 63, 65, and 68 thousand miles(with new plugs each time...) . Mini now says it is the dinan sport module causing the spark plugs to become worn too quickly. Removed it today and will see if the problem is truly solved now.

My Dinantronix was giving me a CEL and putting me in limp mode. Had to pull it. Problem fixed.....

Interesting. I can believe the worn spark plugs at 60K, but the repeated short term replacement seems a bit odd. I know the added boost puts additional 'strain' on the ignition system to jump the spark gap, but enough to wear out the electrode(s) in 2-3K miles sounds fishy to me. The higher the cylinder pressure, the higher the resistance of the air gap. It would be interesting to have them gap the plugs a little tighter and see if the wear issue goes away or at least comes back into a more 'normal' range. I am speaking from experience with my Mustang over the past 30 years playing around with its boost levels and a much less sophisticated ignition system. Crank the boost with that engine and you have to close up the plug gap to ensure a strong enough spark to light the fire.

problem seems to be resolved now. I may try the dinan sport again at sport level only(was previously on Race) and see if that is ok.

Good to hear. Our F54 just started that at 57K. Hope the plugs resolve it, leaving on a 1K mile trip tomorrow!

Long term follow up. It was the octane booster destroying the plugs, not the dinan. Stopped using it and at 86,000 miles now with no recurrence. Planning to put the NM engineering unit on soon at the lowest setting so I don't have to use octane booster...

FWIW, replaced the plugs and road trip went off without issue.
