Importing a European Mini from Spain to the USA

Hi Everyone,

I'm reaching out to this knowledgeable community in search of advice and tips on importing my Mini vehicle to the United States.

A little background: I've been the proud owner of a Mini, and have diligently maintained it at the official dealership. Now, I am in the midst of the importation process to bring my cherished car to the USA.

I understand that one of the key requirements is to present a certified letter from Mini, stating that my vehicle complies with all the standards set by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Department of Transportation (DOT). I've already reached out to Mini SPAIN for this documentation, and they have no clue as how to do it and recommended to contact Mini USA, but I thought it would be beneficial to tap into the collective wisdom of this forum for any additional guidance or tips you all might have.

Here are a few specific questions I have:
  1. Has anyone here gone through the process of importing a Mini vehicle to the USA from Europe? Any insights on the timeline and potential challenges would be greatly appreciated.
  2. Are there any particular agencies or service providers that you would recommend for facilitating the importation process?
  3. Is there anything specific about Mini vehicles that I should be aware of when importing?
I am open to any suggestions or advice you might have. Please feel free to comment below or contact me directly if you prefer.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to read my post and for any help you can provide. I'm looking forward to becoming an active member of this community!

Thanks!

No experience to offer. I did read a few articles in the UK car mags about UK drivers importing cars from Europe (and Japan and US). There were UK companies that offered import assistance.

Since you want to bring a car from Spain to the US I'd recommend you search for a company in the US that offers import assistance.

Thanks for the info, but I understand that what you saw is cars being imported in the Uk or Europe from the States, which is way more easy......

I am trying to find that type of company in the USA with no luck so far....

I can't comment specifically on importing from Spain to USA, but when I was importing my Mini from USA to Canada I followed the procedures outlined on official sites. There are specific requirements for exporting and importing cars which are usually provided on border control services sites for origin and destination countries.
I didn't use any 3rd party company help. It was a slightly complicated process and a lot of paperwork, but I was able to do it within a month with no rush.

To add to my previous post - in my case I didn't have to provide any documentation about Canadian road safety compliance at the time of importation.
Instead I had to complete Federal Safety Inspection within a certain time after importation in order to be able to register car in Canada.
I am not sure if process is different for your case.

It is different as in Canada the emission regulations are the same as in the USA.

In Europe, event hough they are more strict, there is not an easy convalidation....
