Escort SoloS2

Does anyone use this radar detector?

We currently have the Passport 8500 but like the wireless idea of the SoloS2.

Any thoughts would be great, thanks!

Got one and like it. The batteries last weeks. Goes into a sleep mode if you forget to turn it off when you get out of the car. No wires is really, really nice.

I have the 8500 in my MCS and my wife has the Solo S2 in her MCC. Detection seems very close between the two when we take both cars. Battery life on the S2 is pretty good and the sensor within that turns it off (if you forget) after the car has been sitting still for awhile will help.

FWIW, the Solo S2 also has a jack (covered) on the side so you can use a travel charger/cord if you want or need to.

Only one strange issue is that nearly every time we get out around DFW Airport, the Solo S2 goes nuts with a laser warning, and the 8500 does not. I have yet to figure that out because it is very consistent and we have never spotted any traffic patrols while in the alert area.

We also use the Solo and it has definitely paid for itself . As posted above it's accuracy and battery life are both very good, and it is great for use in multiple vehicles, my husband also uses it on his sportbike. I would recommend it

is there like a low-battery indicator to pre-warn you before the battery
dies out?

also, can you use rechargable batteries in it too? (NiCd or NiMh?)

that sounds like a neat detector.

Yes there is a low-battery indicator and it will beep and show you how much battery life you have left. I don't know about rechargeable batteries, at least in ours I don't think you can, we have had it 2 yrs and it has saved us big time, especially my hubby on the bike

I also have the SoloS2 and I love it. At first I had some issues with it falling from the windshield bracket, but an ingenious modification (a bit of hidden electrical tape ) did the trick. Really simple and convenient, just stick it to te windshield and go, no wires or anything.

It works on AA batteries so if you have those rechargable battery kits I would think you could just use those. I don't think it's really necessary though, the batteries last long enough and it warns you when you might need to change them.

A great detector for the price IMHO, two thumbs up for me !

Thanks for all the input! It looks like we will pick one up. With how well this Mini handles the high speeds, we need all the help we can get.

FYI bothof our 8500s had to go back to get re-tuned for the L. Horn on one car and rear washer pump on the other would set of the L everytime. They can re-turn them to stop that. It is picking up a stray freq. at DFW and with everthing that is radiates from airports it is very possible. Give them a call.
