How many Pulses per Mile is the speed sending wire?

Anyone know how many pulses per mile the speed sending wire is putting out?

For bonus points; I know it is under the right side sill, but what color is the wire?

I am hooking up a home brew timing device, and it's upper end limit is 5,000 pulses per mile. I searched around NAM and MINI2 and can't find the number.

Thanks in advance,

I don't know the answer, but you have completely sparked my curiosity as to what you are up to!

THere's an RPM wire in the OBD-II connector.

I don't remember the color, but it's at pin 9. It has two pulses per rotation, and that works out to about 20+ Hz at idle, up to about 160 or so at redline. It's low is zero volts and it's high is pretty much at battery (it's above 12 VDC....)

I haven't seen a speed output like this, but if you check the ECU pin out I'm sure there's one there (I think).... Greatbear is really good at this stuff.

Nothing too secretive Shankrabbit - just a custom Road Rally timing device

Hey Matt, Thanks for the lead, also will check with GreatBear... btw, can't wait for your wife's article, should be interesting to see what the 'other' perspective is...

Best,
