Electrical Radar Detector
Radar Detector
Another question . . . when I bought the 06 MCS, they tried to wire my radar detector into the fuse box. I had it done in my 03 MCS. They told me that in order to run the cord down the a-piller, they had to break the clips of the trim piece over the a piller. They said they would have to order a new part and all. . . Anyway, has anyone else installed a radar dector in an 06? Where do you have it? By the rear-view-mirror? Down by the dash? Thanks.

I mounted my passport 8500 on the hump on the dash right on top of the speedo using adhesive backed velcro. no wires to show, low down = best for hand held laser detection, as they generally aim for your front plate, easily removed if you do get stopped. Jock
I have mine up by the rear view mirror hard wired, there is no need to remove the pillar trim, just pull the door molding up and run the wire in the gap, that is how I do it!! no wires showing!!
Hard wire option
I hard wired mine to the drivers visor light wires
Just pop ot the 2 caps on the visor remove 2 screws and splice into the wires.
Grey with red is power and brown ground.
It does come on as you unlock and open the door.
Will turn off after a bit.
I kind of like that because if an intruder was to get in, they may run for cover thinking it was a "alarm"
Key on always on
Lock with 1 button push it will turn off in a bit
Double lock off right away

There are several threads that discuss how to do this. I've got a V1 that's mounted in the "proper" :-) location up by the rearview mirror. Laser detection's bunk; if it goes off, you're caught. I'm not sure what to believe about the trim clips needing to be broken. The Bentley manual backs up this claim, but I've had my service department address a rattle at the A pillar and was told that they removed the trim, stuck some adhesive felt behind it, and buttoned everything back up, which leads me to believe that they didn't *replace* the trim. Either way, with a thin enough power cord, you don't need to remove it. I stuffed the power cord for my V1 behind that trim piece (between the pillar and the windshield, not by the door) using a plastic putty knife to slightly pull the trim away from the windshield. The V1 uses a flat four-conductor telephone extension cable for power, so it's pretty easy to hide; it might be more difficult for what you're using.
