Electrical Hella ff200 wiring Question
Hella ff200 wiring Question
I am 90 % done with my wiring for my Hella Driving Lights. All I have left is this blue wire that I assume is meant for connection to a switched power sourse so that the lights do not stay on when i turn the engine off. I am planning on doing the add a fuse method so that I do not tap into wiring for this switched wire. Will this work? Can anyone confirm that I am correct that this bear blue wire is for connection to switched power?
Thanks
Carl
Thanks

Carl,
It sounds like you're using a wiring harness built by Hella. If so, the blue wire indeed goes to switched power supply. It is intended to be connected to the high beam of your lights (it is the law in some states). The easiest way to determine which wire is which is remove the power connector to one of your headlights and test each light colored wire (brown is ground) for power. I found using a test light was great for this since I was working alone and couldn’t see the reads on my volt meter. The wire that has power when the high beams are turned on is the wire you want to connect the blue wire to.
Hope this helps!

I hope Carl didn't wait for someone to answer his question before proceeding... since he posted this in October of 2005....

Thanks anyway. It was easier than I thought. I wanted to be able to control when to put them on. I did not wire them up with the high beams.

Arly where did you run the wires through the firewall? I've got access to a grommet on the drivers side with what looks like a "cut off if you want to go through here nipple" on it but can't tell where it comes out on the inside.
:::::edit::::::::
got it
I referred to the oem light installation instructions where they clearly state "just punch a hole in the big grommet with a sharp metal object". I may take more care than is indicated in those instructions.

Pretty much what I did. I took 14 gauge copper solid wire cut on an angle. Poked it through the grommet, went inside and pulled it clear of any potential shorts. Went back out taped the 4 wires from the harness going inside to it and push/pulled them through.
I only covered the hole with black duct tape to make a watershed. (MINI had done the same a little higher on another grommet from the factory -checked both cars)
