X band isnt used in Houston by any agency. K/Ka and Laser are all over the place though. (Southside, WestU, and 1/2 of Bellaire are Laser). Houston, Katy, and Pearland all use Radar. Beware though, they're mostly using instant on now, so you wont get the easy warnings. I live out in Katy if you need a hand hooking the V1 up.

How do you do that?

Turning off X band on the V1

Start with the control **** in the off position. Press in the **** and turn on the unit and continue holding in the **** until all the lights come on - about five seconds. Release control ****. If you press the **** in quickly and release it will display the software version of the unit. Press and release the **** quickly to exit software display. When the #1 appears there should be a direction arrow pointing up. Press and hold in the control **** for about three seconds and this arrow will now point down. The X band has been deactivated. Turn the unit off to save this programing.

Thanks... how do you reactivate it? Do most cops now use K? I seem to be a ticket magnet in the state of LA...

You can reactivate it by following the same procedure and holding the **** in until the arrow points up.

Thanx for the information. I just Hardwired the V1 using the addafuse... it was beyond easy! What other programming options are there for the V1? How did you learn about this one?

If you go to the Valentine one site I think you will find a list of options. Where did you route your wires?

I have my RD next to my RV mirror, the wires are in the gap (05) b/w the headliner and the windhsield and run all the way down the gaps to the dash, in the gap b't weatherstripping and dash then there is a small gap in the plastic that you can shove the wire thru to behind the knee bolder. I velcro'd the power thingy fo the V1 on the bolster (easy access for the addition of any accessories) and rand the power to the fuse box to the ADDA-fuse... I loosened on of the bolts and used it for a ground. With the bolster down it is not the prettiest, but it looks clean from any other angle.

I can take pictures if you like.. the install took about 15 minutes.

Yeah, I didn't want to mess with the OBD wires so I added a circuit... it could not have been easier.

V1 set-up

I've had a V1 for a couple of years and just love it! I've had others but like the display of where the radar is coming from the best. Also the quality is AA++ - like the phone jack connection, the self tapping hot lead, extra suction cups, two level volume control, ect..........

I have mine set-up to read all bands.

In my case , I ran the wire from the center of the dash/bottom window along the glass and dash towards the passanger side coming around the corner pilar and then down along side the glove box. removed the platic panel in the foot well and tapped into a power source and then found a screw for the ground.

When I don't have it suction cupped to the window, i simply push the wire down between the glass and das and all that you see is the phone jack end.

enjoy

Well I figured out how to wire it the way I did on the 04, on the 05. You just yank the map light panel thats above the rear view mirror down. On the 05 you need to tap the V1 into the purple wire that connects to the map light panel. On the 04 it was a red wire. Then I just drilled a screw into the metal up in there and attached the ground to that. Then just stuff all the wires up there and pop the map light panel into place...viola! All done.

Also just wired today with "add a circuit" and hiding wiring was as easy as described in the various posts here --- took no more that 30 minutes.

I used the add-a-fuse for my 8500 install - worked great, almost looks stock, only 3" of wire visible and you don't notice it!

The deactivation of the X band is the only feature missing I wish I had - that would be GREAT! I have not seen a cop shoot X band in probably 15 years. I see K very frequently and Ka is becoming more popular around here, especially instant-on. I have not been hit by lidar since I moved from Detroit 6 years ago.

Isn't it easy... even passed the wife's "it must look like it belongs" test.

I posted my hardwire install guide here: http://nemini.org/Forums/viewtopic/p=54193.html

I used add-a-circuit and the factory ground location.

Thanks to all who posted DIY info in this thread

It made my installation very easy! I ended up putting the remote module under the toggle switches - looks great!
