DIY: Disable TPMS (NCSExpert)

This is finishing up @Revdoc thread from 2014 (R56 TPMS Disable/Removal with NCSExpert *IN PROGRESS*

--

With that said, I know bunch of us run aftermarket wheels without sensors or failed sensor. Its a bit frustrating seeing the annoying triangle and the TPMS light on. Finally have a solution for you guys!

Tutorial on how to use NCSExpert:
Dummies Guide to Basic coding with NCS Expert

Step 1:

Disconnect the RDC Module, or pull Fuse 19 in passenger footwell fusebox (SPEG).
Note⚠️: Fuse 19 ties into Rain Sensor and Auto Shifter. (Manual Mode does not work on A/T (Moving shifter to the left), and Rain Sensor is inop). Advise to unplug the RDC. Depending on Pre LCI, or LCI it might be in different locations. Rear Bumper, or Driver Side rear trunk.

Step 2:

### NCSExpert changes
  • Remove $2VB vehicle order
  • FA Write to the CAS and FRM module
KOMBI
RDC_ALIVE
nicht_aktiv
MMI_ENA_RPA_RDC
aktiv
RDC_VERBAUT
nicht_aktiv
DSC_MIT_RPA_CC
aktiv
RDC_DISP_SWITCH
nicht_aktiv

Clear Faults -> TPMS Light & Malfunction will go away.

For those that do not have CIC/CCC and just the big speedometer in the middle.. this is the only thing you'll have to do.

--

I have not tested CCC, CIC vehicles (I'll need someone who is willing to try it) [Vehicles with Navigation]
In addition to the changes to KOMBI, You will need to do these for CIC or CCC.
Additionally, might be possible to use FTM (Flat Tire Monitor) on CIC but I have not tested it (RPA_CIC will need to be set to aktiv instead of nicht_aktiv), and I think there is DSC Coding. I don't have a CIC Mini so I can't be certain.

CIC
RPA_CIC
nicht_aktiv
RDC
nicht_aktiv
RDC_SAFETY
nicht_aktiv

CCC Headunits change this instead of CIC parameters above:

CAPPL

RDC_CCC
nicht_aktiv

I just had a TPMS sensor die [I think]. TPMS light in the speedo and the constant red LOW TIRE alert in the tach.
I just got rid of the red 'Mini on a lift' when I replaced the FRM.
Not due for tires anytime soon, so I may talk to my local tire shop to replace the TPMS sensors, cost depending.

Yeah- TPMS Sensors are not cheap, especially with labor. However I know some people like having TPMS. I find it more a naissance especially when swapping wheels.

With that said -> for those auto folks I wouldn't take the Fuse 19 out of the fuse box, it also ties into the shifter (and you can't use manual mode with it removed).I'm assuming the MT Mini's are fine though, and can have that fuse unplugged.

Best route would be to unplug the RDC.

So, unplugging the RDC [assuming it's in the same-ish place on a R57] will disable TPMS & the warning light(s) on the dash?

Only if you do the Vehicle Order (VO) and change a few values in the KOMBI Module.

After that yes.

With that said, RDC location in the Pre LCI R56 was not located at the rear bumper but inside on the driver side trunk. Open the flap, and you’ll see a white box. Pull it out and plug.

The R57 has the top pump there, so it’s probably at the rear bumper. I think.

I don't have NCS, so not sure if that's a viable option.
Not sure if the OBD MX I have would work for that.

I suppose you could try using BimmerCode, and change the few parameters in kombi and unplug the RDC and see if it works (without doing VO change).

Well, I did the tpms reset in the BC menu, light is off so far. Will give it a few days & see if it holds.
Local tire shop only charges $59 to replace/program, so I'll go that route if it comes back.
