Light bulb dash indicator?

i am getting an intermittent light bulb indicator on my dash board for a bad exterior light. i have checked all my lights and can not find any bad bulb. it is intermittent so i figured that was a little weird. i have never has a bulb blow and then amazingly fix itself.

however, i did notice my third brake light does seem dimmer then i think it should be. could this be the intermittent bulb failure?

the 3rd brake light shouldnt trigger the bulb failure warning as its LED, should be something with halogen goes bad. Did you take apart the tail lights and inspect the socket and the circuit board? On the mini, they are quite dodegy

license plate bulb are monitored too, do a walkaround with light on, ignition on (Dont start the car), put it in reverse, then you can check all bulbs

+1 on walk around, put all your lights on and flashers , high and low beams. Also have someone put the brake lights on and reverse while you are at it.

I bought a used 2012 model about a month ago, and it has been doing the same thing: intermittent bulb check, but everything seems to be working.

Last night however, I started up the car late in the evening to move it in the driveway so I only turned on the parking lights, bulb check came on, so I hopped out and noticed the front driver parking/city light was off.....I tapped the housing(because it had been working), and it came on. I suspect the previous owner replaced the bulb and didn't seat it well in the socket, or maybe bent the terminals. I plan to investigate deeper in a few days.

Thought I'd share since you seem to have a similar gremlin.

Just an update on this thread. I too had the intermittent bulb indicator. Mine was the rear foglight indicator. I was at the dealership for other reasons, and mentioned it to them. Then ended up having my car for over 4 hours, tearing the back bumper off to get to some frayed wiring up behind it. Turns out that the wiring back there is tight, and rubs, causing a fraying condition where it's ground out to it's mounts or on the frame/suspension.

If you want, i'll scan in my repair order which has part numbers, etc.

my car does not have rear fogs. but i have found out it only happens after an autox. i probably have a loose connection somewhere. probably wont start looking for the issue till the indicator wont go away, intermittent issues are a pain to find.
