I'm beginning to wonder if my issue is that I have an extremely new program in my car. I had my radio replaced under warranty about two weeks ago, and the dealer reset *everything*, so I lost all my previous codes. I've got a 2012 R58 and the Carly app can't read my FRM whatsoever. I just wish I had a DCAN cable so I could try the latest datens on my car, but I'm still trying to find a decent one that isn't a waste of money and won't cost me a billion dollars.

Sounds reasonable. You'll probably have to wait for an update to the Carly app.

Thankfully, the Carly app was updated yesterday to version 21.3, and the FRM is now codeable once again. Yay!

Oddly enough, a few months ago I has to get a new key programmed at the dealer and I think they updated my FRM in the process. I was trying to code it a few weeks ago and it just wouldn't take any new settings to it, and I ended up killing it in the process. I swapped in a new FRM and all is well. I'm wondering if there are infact some new datens out there needed for the CM.

I finally have the new cable and was working on getting things setup. I mentioned before I was running Windows 10 as well...

I think everything setup fine, installs ran well and I was able to copy all the files where they needed to be. I haven't gone out to the car to plug things in, thought I'd check things first. INPA runs fine it seems. I tried launching the NCS-Expert tool though and it will not launch, says "this app can't run on your PC". I tried setting compatibility mode for Windows XP SP2, that didn't help. 16-bit app maybe? I thought I recall seeing people were running it with Windows 7?

Anyone know anything about getting some new Datens? I'm having issues using this tool and I had issues using the Carly tool as well and I'm suspecting that it may be because our car is so new that the older Datens are not working.

I've attached a PDF file that explains some of the issues I'm having with the error codes. If it is the Datens or some other update, who does those or is there anything I can provide from my car to help move along the process to get this fixed? There are a few things I'd love to change from a preferences perspective and would really like to avoid going to the dealer to do it (not real close for us).

Anyone have anything on this? How do we get new Datens? Sounds like they have not been updated in a long time, who on this board had the contacts for that?

I may have found some newer Daten files. The ones that we are getting here are v53.0.5. I was over on a BMW forum and they have R56 Datens that are v57.0. I'm downloading them now, big file and slow DSL...not sure I'll be able to try it out before my wife takes the car today for work. If I can, I'll report back otherwise it will be tomorrow.

Awesome. I'll be patient

On a side note, another thing the dealer didn't get right when they put in a new module is my headlight washers don't activate. Yes I know how and when they are supposed to work but they don't.

Any idea where this feature is activated? I'll take it back in if I have to but would rather not.

Sorry to stray from the new datens conversation... but I'm looking for a way to disable the rear fog bulb warnings. Long story short I had rear fogs now I don't and I need to disable to bulb warnings.

I have this warning dash light:
Name: IMG_1315s_zpsziwjspbq.jpg
Views: 3256
Size: 53.2 KB

NSL_EINSEITIG_VERBAUT_C34 nicht_aktiv
KALTUE_NSL_L_M2_51 nicht_aktiv
WARMUE_NSL_L_M2_51 nicht_aktiv
CC_MELDUNG_NSL_L_3R wert_02
KALTUE_NSL_R_M1_10 nicht_aktiv
WARMUE_NSL_R_M1_10 nicht_aktiv
CC_MELDUNG_NSL_R_3R wert_02

After doing that I have this warning light?

Name: IMG_1313s_zps8q0wyzg6.jpg
Views: 3303
Size: 58.3 KB

I'd be fine if there was just a way to disable all the bulb checks, but ideally I would be able to only do the ones for the rear fogs.

Any help appreciated.

If you change your vehicle order to delete the rear fog option, then the car will not check because it will think that it doesn't have them.

Delete the $5AA option and default the FRM module.

Otherwise just set the kaltue and warmue with NSL to nicht_aktiv. You will have a right and left unless you have the JCW kit where you will only have to disable the one side.

Thanks cerenkov. Always coming through with the knowledge.

Looking in my FRM module I don't see anything similar to $5AA. Any way you can get me the exact function names for those defaults? Or is the "vehicle order" in another module?

By "default the FRM module" do you mean set it back to "default"? I have other changes in the FRM I'd like to keep. I can back out the changes I made trying to turn of these bulb warnings no problem.

Thanks for the help.

Ok looks like I can get to the VO with the Expertenmodus profile.

The problem is I can't view the see the full VO and when I go to change FA and get to the VO, it looks like I have to rebuild the whole thing. Not just remove that one option.

Any thoughts?

Also, I tried just setting the kaltue and warmue to nicht_aktiv again and that does remove the rear fog bulb warning but then I'm shown the regular bulb warning.

Perhaps I have another bulb out somewhere? Is there a way to check which bulb is triggering that?

You could have another bulb out, here's a link to my quick instructions for changing the vehicle order.

Well, the v57.0 Datens did not work for me, gave me an error, but then I found out he said he has v57.2 that are just a couple weeks old. Why I didn't get those ones the first time I don't know :-) In any case, I'm downloading them now and will have to give them a shot tomorrow.

This is the link he gave me to download them, if someone else wants to try them go for it, I think the link will work. They are compressed with RAR, not ZIP, just a heads up.

Yep looks l have another bulb out... kinda...

Went by a shop doing some other work for me, they had a better fault reader then the DashCmd or PowerGate reader I have access to and sure enough its showing A8AD - "Side marker light, right faulty"

Funny thing is both right side marker lights (in the wheel well) are functioning.

I'm wondering if I'm part of this service bulletin -SIM630110.pdf

That fault code is listed in it.

It says its build months of 8/2009 thru 8/2010 but mine was built in 11/2010... seems close enough.

I read on some other thread it was just a change the dealer had to make to the FRM. Anybody have any idea or clue how to do that myself? I don't want to take it to the dealer and they default all the other changes in my FRM and other files.

OBDI Help

I've been trying to get INPA to work (for diagnostic codes) for a couple days now and no luck.
Installed BST 2.10, INPA 5.0.2, latest R56 Datens from here
I am able to see both ignition and battery lights on (black) in INPA
Verified pins 7 and 8 are not connected with continuity check.
Updated all the COM port in the ini files to be consistent with device manager.
Updated Latency

Tried both on Windows 8.1 x64 and windows Vista x32 and same error (IFH-0009) no response from control unit, no VIN, no nothing.

Appreciate any help here, really just interested in INPA and not programming at this point.

Running an R60 with N18.

Update, after digging further it appears I have the wrong cable (white layout as in this picture: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ml#post3903936), my understanding is that I want the green and that the white won't work from Kevdog's post 1032. I had purchased it from the same amazon page being referred to here but from seller iraklis chrysantzas.

Is the latest working recommendation
Amazon.com : INPA K+CAN K+DCAN Car Diagnostic tool Cable OBD USB Interface for BMW R56 E87 E93 E70 : Vehicle Electronics : Car Electronics Amazon.com : INPA K+CAN K+DCAN Car Diagnostic tool Cable OBD USB Interface for BMW R56 E87 E93 E70 : Vehicle Electronics : Car Electronics
from Fotga? Thanks.

I must be kind of dumb. I found that garageforum.org download, but it only downloads a small .txt file. Am I missing the actual download link? Derp is me... heh heh heh.
