But if you would have to make a custom design, I doubt you'd sell enough to pay back the design and tooling costs. Coding the car is just annoying enough that it's not much of a mass market thing. (I'd love to be proven wrong.)
That's kind of what I figured as well, but good to hear confirmation

Right, there are a lot of non-canbus LEDs out there, but I don't see many with the surge protection we have. Even by removing heat from resistors as a potential cause of premature failure, you still have to contend with current surges on what are still delicate electrical components. Similar to why you'd want a surge protector between your wall socket and your tv/computer, big enough spike could damage the LEDs. That said, non-canbus units are typically fairly cheap to replace so it's just time and convenience you'd be saving using our more advanced design.
