Electrical 2009 R57 Trailer Wiring
2009 R57 Trailer Wiring
Having a terrible time trying to find the right module and wiring to install trailer light connections in my car. Are the brake and tail lights on separate circuits or do they use one bulb for tail light/brake light? I was told by Curt Trailers to use a module with a wire for R turn, L Turn and a single wire for tail/stop. My installer said I needed a separate wire for tail light and stop lights.
Does the same single bulb on the R57 perform tail iight and stop light duty? Having a terrible time trying to not only ensure I have the right module, but how many wires do I need from the module to the car. The out put to the trailer is a simple flat 4 plug wire.
Help please.

BMW has a dedicated trailer lighting module (AHM) to provide external lighting. If you add any load on the tail lights you are risking damaging the FRM module that provides all of the lighting. There are two bulbs in the tail light assemblies that are dual filaments to provide running and brake lights. The are wired independently to the FRM as different lights light up for different applications and in different countries.
