Without proper projectors, your HID kit is illegal and blinding to oncoming drivers.

Yes, two blobs of ricer blue. Not a classy, high end euro look.

You could easily grab some sylvania silverstars to brighten up your halogens and work with what you have They output far more visible light, are legal, are whiter, don't look silly, and will work properly with the shape of the halogen housing. They're quite affordable as well.

Although they are clear bulbs, you can try the OSRAM 64217 65W bulbs for high beams. They are supposed to have the same 500 hour rating as a standard halogen. They are 18% above stock, so they don't tax your wiring too hard. And they are quite bright. Go here if you are interested: http://store.candlepower.com/osraulhiouh7.html.

Please show some respect to everyone else on the road by not blinding them with cobbled up lighting system.

and if you do , do what i did and only use it in your high beams, as they already blind oncoming traffic (well.. technically i didn't put them in my high beams, but i put them all in my alta light bar... which just makes a stupid amount of light output, but it lights up back roads like nobody's business :P )

if you have the *****, buy some ebay halogen projectors, open them up (much like doing a joey mod) and take out the halogen projectors and get some xenon projectors that are the same size off of ebay (they can be had for ~80/pair), then buy a d2s hid kit (kinda funny they sell a kit for a d2s bulb...) from ddmtuning.com and connect some wires. ($35) (get the ddm mid sized 35w at 4500k...)
and then you will have proper hid headlights, that are joey modded (or you can buy the chrome ones if you don't like the look) for $235+shipping.
not too shabby :P

+1 - They make an Ultra version of this bulb now, and either one is a great upgrade w/o blinding the motoring public.....putting HID kit in a factory halogen designed housing/reflector is not only dangerously blinding to oncoming traffic, you just may end up with a stack of fines to pay....

I don't see how putting a Xenon bulb in a housing is any more blinding than the fact the factory HID setup has the Xenon bulb pointing directly at oncoming traffic in the first place.

Each and every headlight housing is computer designed to provide optimum refraction and emission of light w/o it being a detriment to oncoming drivers.

HID headlights have built in cut off's to keep the light from "flooding" and provide a focussed light for both performance and again safety.

It is not just a matter of making shiny reflective dishes and sticking a bulbs in there. That's why.

The factory Xenon reflectors have been designed with Xenon light output in mind, and therefore do not have the same reflector shape as a halogen reflector.

They're two different types of bulbs, and the engineers at MINI, (and every other automobile company) treat them as such. They don't just have one reflector shape in their parts bins, and simply swap out bulb types...

That is why it would be irresponsible for anyone with a set of halogen headlamp reflectors to put in Xenons.

I'm not sure if the Original Poster is doing this shortcut method, or if he's got a completely different set of headlamps, (with ballasts, ignitors, etc.).
