Electrical Nav Tach/Speedo in non-Nav car
Nav Tach/Speedo in non-Nav car
Has anyone tried to swap in a Navi tach/speedo cluster into a car that didnt have navi or chrono pack?
I'm wondering if I could swap a Navi tach/speedo cluster into my car that doesn't have Navi or a Chrono pack. I woul like to have the speedo on my column, but I still love having the center speedo.
Does anyone have a pic of the wiring to the plug for the stock tach only plug? I dont remember if all the slots were filled or not.

I know that its a single plug either way for sure, but i'm thinking because of the extensive use of CAN, the signals are sent there either way, so if I plug it in, it would work like normal.
I don't remember what the pinout is for the tach.

Well, all the pins on the back of just a tach are filled, and there are the same number of pins on the tach/speedo combo cluster.
The Tach has to get VSS signal because it has a digital speedo if you don't get a trip computer.
I think i'm gonna try it out and see what happens...

I had this in may car for a short time as I was installing OEM SatNav.
Its a simple swap BUT you need to fit a brand new double clock pack as they need coding to the car to work 100%.
If already coded to another car I don't think they will work.
If not coded (new) then the dials work but the digital displays just show "CODE".

So what i'm thinking is i'm only going to be able to pick one screen to display the mileage/trip odometer, either the column mounted speedo or middle speedo.
As long as everything functions as normal, but the right side column mounted speedo digital readout doesn't work right, I could probably live with it.
Do you remember if the dummy lights all worked properly?

Not quite.
IF you fit a new double clock and get it coded then both its displays will work.
IF you fit a new double clock and DON'T code it then neither of its digital displays will work.
In EITHER case the needle dials work.
Also the warning lights in the double pack won't light BUT the warning lights in the CENTRAL speedo will still all work.
To get the warning lights in the double clock to work you need to programme the BCU.

Yes,
what I did with my car is have the BCU coded for Chronopack Retrofit.
Got my local dealer to do the coding, he only cjarged me 15 minutes labour.
BUT if you do this and keep the central speedo then I am not sure wjat would ahppen with the central speedo warning lights.

Chronopack retrofit? is it real?
So can it be done? And will any Mini dealer be able to do it with the proper coding ?(maybe Patrick Mini , Chicago?) Can the speedo in the middle of the dash be replaced with the gauge pack? In a 2003? How much moola?
Not quite.

I've heard of people retrofitting the chrono pack. Just saw this one recently: http://www.mini2.com/forum/interior-...rono-pack.html
What might be MORE fun would be putting the dual gauge cluster in front of the driver (as it is on nav/chrono cars) then modifying the center speedo to house "real" gauges instead of teh chrono. While I love my chrono pack, I suspect (based on far-too-consistent temp readings) the temp gauge is an "idiot light" gauge that reads normal unless things go bad, then reads bad. I'd love a few more degree calibrations on there.
