Installing backup camera

I have a 2006 s convertible with less than ideal rear visibility. Have backup camera wired through trunk and wonder if anyone knows which of the 6 six wires from light power block to use for a pos on the backup light and a neg. I want to draw power from the lights to operate backup camera.

The backup light + is blue/yellow. Ground is brown.

Good luck! Post pictures when done.

Backup Camera

Installation was a cinch once I knew which wires to tap. It is a small screen and it is attached by velcro just below the vent to the right of the steering wheel. In a parking lot with SUVs on both sides it is a blessing.

Which brand did you get? I think this is an excellent idea. My wife's MINI is a 2007 MCS Cabrio and I know what you mean regarding the limited vision.

Can't wait to see the pics.

seriously. it is dumb. i used to have a cargo van with only side mirrors and no back window. driven that for 2 years daily and not a single bump. a mini could probably fit in that van. so dont do it!! all these new tech and gagets makes drivers lost their basic sense of controling the car, being as one with the car. often when you think there is no more room between your mini and the wall, you probably still have over a foot of space left that the car is so short.

Suppose that your van did have a backup camera. Even if you didn't NEED it, would you not agree that it would have been a good and useful feature?

Think of it as an upgrade/enhancement, just like an engine, suspension, or stereo mod. A backup camera is not a necessity, but it genuinely enhances the MINI convertible. I have one in mine and love it so much that I think I'll want a backup camera in all of my future cars.

Post pics of where you installed the acutal camera!

Im in the middle of my install, and its tricky, and the wiring is difficult...
I dont have a cabrio, but I do have tint that does hinder my vision at night. very helpful

also, I wanted mine wired to run whenever I had the lights on, so that at night, while on the freeway I could use it to check my blind spots and help gauge the speed of other cars behind me.

Can't hurt right?

I'm not sure what kind of camera you are installing but here's where I put mine. I have a hard top also (R56, and yes I know this is a 1st gen forum). I had heard of people having issues with moisture getting in their boot handles when install a non-OEM camera in the handle. I wanted to avoid that so I installed my camera behind the glass on the hatch. It is very hard to tell that I have a camera installed. I played with the idea of modifying my third brake light but gave it up. In the last picture you can see part of the camera in the rear view mirror.

Are you sure you don't want to have a constant power source to tap into so you are not limited to using the camera when you are in reverse?

I wonder how difficult it would be to tie the camera into a computer to record images/video?

Hmmm, just a thought.
