Switching fog lights to driving lamps

thinking about getting rid of fog lamps and install driving lamps... is it possible to route the on/off toggle switch of the fog lamps to control the driving lamps?

I don't think so - the BC1 controls the fogs, and turns them off when the high beams are on.
I suppose you could move the wiring, but that would be very inconvenient to turn on/off quickly.

Are talking about changing out the stock fogs for driving lights?

I suppose it could be done, but you'd have to find a way to remove the lens and then replace them with a driving light. The wiring shouldn't be a problem except for the comment about not being able to use them with the high beams

Why not just relocate the fogs, switching to Hella 500s, into the lower grill area. Then you can do the brake ducts and keep the fogs. You might have to lengthen some wires but that would be it.

Trying to crack the code to re-task the fog light switch to operate driving lights would be difficult to say the least. The factory circuits specifcally allow power to the fog switch only when the low beams or parking/city lights are on.

I am not sure what you mean about "switching" the wiring. I was talking about being able to replace the fog light with driving lights. You would be using the stock wiring and switch, but would be limited in when you could turn them on. Only way to get the driving light to operate with the high beams would be to go after market with the switch and wiring.

What I meant was to buy these http://www.rallylights.com/hella/500.asp and install the "fog" version into the lower grill. That way the lights will operate when you would need them ie: while the low beams or parking lights are on. I can see no reason to ever need to have the "driving" lights on with low beams. Anyone in front of you would be blinded.

The physical shape of the lights is identical but the reflector, lense and light pattern are very different. See here; http://www.rallylights.com/hella/Bea...Driving%20beam

I think you and everyone else on the road would be better off if you just replaced the smaller factory "fog" lights with larger "fog" lights. If you really want "driving" lights use a different switch. I understand why you want to use the factroy switch, it is much cleaner. This is something that I have thought about many times. I like the idea of all of those nice toggles, all lined up in a row. Very cool.

To solve the issue of installing a switch in the dash I found this: http://www.autoswitch.com/ The Model ASP5 is elegantly simple. Works with the high beam switch on the stalk. No need to learn where a new switch is located because the stalk turns on either the high beams or the driving lights. When you decide to turn off the high beams it turns off the driving lights as well.

With this switch you could have the new fogs running off the fog toggle and new driving lights operated off the stalk. And you could still have your brake ducts.

Hope this helps.

well i'm not a fond of the "aftermarket" fog light look and i do like the look of the stock driving lamps. i was just wondering if its possible... i just don't want to put the lamps on and have it not working. but, how strong are the driving lamps? i think the high beams are good enough if i can't see whats ahead imo (i use high beams when i go canyon carving at night). i don't want to blind the hell out of the people if i have the high beams + driving lamps on. i hope normal beams + driving lamps would be somewhere in between normal beams and high beams

Why don't you just do what people used to do before manufacturers got fancy with the electronics....?

Just wire them direct with an inline fuse to the battery, and tap into the main beam wiring connected to a switch to the dash. It's been a while since my younger days of slapping together a set of aux lights but that's basically the way how....

well since theres going to be an extra toggle switch if the fog lights were to be remove, then why not keep the interior more "OEM Finished" look and use the extra toggle switch than just adding another switch that makes the interior look more aftermarket-ish right? if its possible, i would like to do things if it came straight from the factory... otherwise that would be an obvious choice

If all you want to do is take out the H11 fog light and install a driving light of the same wattage, I am sure you could just use the stock wiring and toggle. You just wouldn't be able to use the driving light and the high beams at the same time.

I would suggest that that is the safest route. I don't know if a higher wattage lamp would do any damage, but why take the chance.....

I did replace the OEM fogs with aftermarket fogs (just VERY easy wiring)
In order to do my brake ducts and keep fogs ...

The circut would be the best route if you want High beam AND aux lights

I am not at home tonight and cannot remember the name. Its the little circuit board that they sell around here. It works awesome I might add!

I think it is called Mini Micro Chip or something like that. V8 or 5.0? I seriously cannot remember.

sorry

I can post it tommorow evening if someone doesnt beat me to it.

could you hook the oem driving lamps to the same wiring cor blmy? scottinbend= ian's auto up circuit lets you have the one-touch roll up windows... but i don't know if the newer circuits let you mess with the fog lights or if there is another "chip" out there.

I have Ians auto-up but it didn't have the fog light capability. That's why I asked. I haven't heard about any mod that allowed the fogs to operate with the high beams.

My understanding from Ian is that his auto up circuit only changes the state of the switch default. So the fogs are on automatically when low beams are turned on. It will not enable high beam and fogs simultaniously, since this is not controlled by the toggle.

Ians circut defaultts the lights to on it does NOT allow them to operate when the high beams are on ..(unless something new...)

Interesting ... yes ... you couild wire the OEM (or aftermarket driving lamps to the fog light wiring.
Not sure about a BIG 4 lamp flamethrower without changing the fuse, or perhaps using the fog signal to run a relay ... Good Idea

The OEM has 2 wires as do the aftermarket lamps .(I have seen some aftermarket have only 1 wire but the mount would then be the ground.

did someone say big 4 lamp flamethrower?

wiring them in today 2 seperate switches because Illinois only likes 4 forward facing driving lights on at one time (including headlights) just have to find a hole in the firewall.
