Major electrical problem. all input appreciated.

Hi everyone,

A few months ago I had an aftermarket H/U installed. Afterwards I noticed my dash lights stay on 24/7 no matter what, draining my battery and requiring a jump on a daily basis. I changed the fuse and nothing. I took it back to the installer they looked at it couldn't figure out the problem and wont take responsibility. I just want it fixed because this is extremely aggravating. thank you for your time.

Be Amazing,
Jonathan

From an electrical standpoint, I cannot help. But from a business standpoint, you gotta muscle these guys, whether it be constant visiting or legal action. If the work was done by them and you got some kind of receipt, you got a case.
Good Luck!

The H/U was pulled out (nothing changed). Then factory H/U was reinstalled (no change). Then that was pulled (no change). I know from a business standpoint they need to "make it right" but honestly I don't have the time to invest in all that. I just want it fixed. I appreciate all your input so far. If anyone knows what the problem is and how to fix it or what the best approach in getting it fixed would be please feel free to post. all other comments are welcome as well

thanks again,
Jonathan

Take it to the dealer where they have the proper wiring diagrams....very simple fix, current is shorted into that circuit. If you were local, I would check and fix it, but I can't tell that from your profile

Since the i/p lights are controlled and dimmed through the body control module, it's most likely that this part has failed, causing problems. If the wiring harness/connectors that connect to the factory HU were tampered with or modified, there is a chance the lighting source wire got somehow connected to a constant power source, leaving the lights one. Double-check this latter scenario first before condemning the BCM. BCM=$$$

I don't know if you've reached a solution on this or not. It sounds like they may have pinched the dimmer wire or something while putting things back together or possibly fried the dimmer module like Greatbear said. I know I used to be an installer for 10 years and I have seen a lot of crap happen and a lot of incompetence in the industry, but I always took responsibility for MY mistakes. This place you are dealing with sounds shady. I would file a formal complaint with the BBB if you haven't already.

My MINI is currently at MINI of Sterling for the same problem. I have not had any recent mods done to the car. The dealer can't figure it out. If it was simply a BCU or dimmer, I'm certain they would have changed it out at my expense. They contacted BMW tech support that told them that they needed to buy a "special tool" to diagnose. What "special tool" could the dealer possibly need to buy after 6 years of servicing MINIs?
