Remote Start 06 MCS 6sp

ok.. I know that it is not the best of ideas, but I Never park my car in gear, I would like to add remote start (an I am not talking about sending my brother out to start the car!)

it's a 06 Mini Cooper S w/6speed.

anyone know of a kit that will work, something to disable to clutch switch.

I am in the detroit metro area.

thank you

You should read the posts from the folks that didn't leave their car in gear and then proceeded to watch the car roll down the hill after the rear brakes cooled and loosened up........

once again, I NEVER HAVE EVER left the car in gear.. but with the fact that I could mess up., it's my fault, nobody elses.

is there or is there not a way to put a remote start on a 06 MCS 6sp?

if yes, who, what and where can I do this.

Yes, it's quite possible to do. I have done it for years and if done properly it will never start if left in gear accidently. Most modern ars actually have a sensor which indicates when the car is in gear or not. You will need a body electrical manual for the car to find the wire but it'll be there. You just wire this line in to one of the shutdown sensor line of the remote start. You will also need to wire in a by-pass for the transponder chip in the car key. There are adapter for most makes of cars out there. I've always been partial to Directed Electronics product, but most of the major brands work well.

Hopefully you are planning on doing the install yourself as most car audio shops willnot do a remote start install on a stick due to the possible liability factor. I know we never did when I ran my shops, and I had remote starts on both of my cars and my motorcycle at the time, all sticks.

As for leaving the car in gear for safety, that is another issue and should be discussed in a different thread.

Shouldn't be a problem. You just bypass the neutral safety switch and install the unit as is.
There are switches that your installer can hook up to tell if the car has been left in gear. Some shops will tap into the E-Brake light to verify that it is set before starting the car. Others add a pressure switch on the gears shift that is engaged if in 1st gear and won't let the car start.
A competent shop will do the job for you. The shop I use has been installing Auto-start in manuals for years.

Yeah, those kits are made to do everything u have to.

Just make sure other people don't leave ur car in gear, my friend's dad drove his crx and left it parked in gear, my friend started the car while he was brushing his teeth and went outside to find his car had run into a tree two blocks down. Luckily no one was hit and there wasn't much damage, just ended up being something to laugh at.

I think my nabs think Im a crazy dude that parades his 42 Mauser around now... worst part was when I was standing there rifle in hand scratching my head with the WTF look when I car pulled up now that I think about it I should have just let my German Shepherds out the door with me vs the gun... oh well ... long story short I now chaulk my cars wheels....

eatonjb, isnt it annoying when you ask for simple help, and instead you get 12 ppl telling you how NOT to do it, or WHY not to do it, vs just helping! i know ive started several threads that ended that way :P
