How do I access to factory fog locations

Question,

Just what needs to be removed to get into the cavity behind the factory fog locations ?
Is there a splash pan underneath that can be removed? or do I have to pull the wheel well liners ?

Thanks

You have to pull off the front Bumper skin. Very easy. Several screws under the the front bumper and a couple in the front of the fender well.

Yup. Pull the bumper. Really easy.
As noted. One screw in each wheel well.
2 torx under the hood. (obvious)
6 or so screws and bolts under the nose in front of the wind diverter (depends on the car, I had three but holes for 6)

Thanks for the info

So are the OEM fog mounts attached to the bumper cover that I am removing?

You can directly access the back side of the fog by removing the wheel well liner. It is what official BMW service instructions describe for replacing the lamp or changing the bulb. It is also possible to get to the fogs by removing the bumper cover. The fog does not attach to the bumper cover but to the body frame behind the cover.

Thanks again.

I was concerned that if they attached to the cover, how I would get them aligned correctly with the assembly off the car. This is because I am going to try to use a set of aftermarket projectors titted into the stock locations.

Thanks again for the information.

The original fogs cannot be aimed. The purpose of the fogs is to cast dispersed light right in front of the car, so the aim is in no way critical. For an intense focused beam, you need to install the grille mounted driving lamps.

Not entirely true. You can indeed aim the fog lights but only vertically. If you look through the parking light bulb access hole you will see a white phillips screw, that controls the up and down movement of the fogs. The screw is tough to turn so a good squirt of WD40 should loosen it up.

Actually I believe they can be aimed, If you look straight down at them with the bonnet open you should see an adjusting screw right on top that moves them up or down.
