Repositioning of OBDII connector?

Anybody ever done this? Is it legal (in CA)?

Reason: I either have to position the OBDII connector so that it "points" to the right (instead of down) OR get my left foot shortened.

I have bought an Auterra Dyno-Scan for Palm OS, which I think will be really great to have and use. BUT to drive with it plugged in, I think I need to get a parcel ("Euro-") shelf and then move the OBDII connector. Is ther an elegant or well-known way to do this successfully? I'm not too thrilled to personally go messing about with the electrical stuff.

I also want to get a GPS nav unit and a cigarette lighter triple adaptor extension to put in/on the shelf too. I figure that way the GPS unit stays charged all the time and so does the Palm and I can just tuck them (and my iPod) away in the shelf when not in use if I choose to.

Thanks, anyway, Kenchan.

Jeez, it's hard to believe I'm the only person to have had this question!!

Whatever. I guess all the other MINI owners who have installed Auterras or other devices that plug itno the OBDII are people with little feet, or they are satisfied with working around the problem when they drive.

Oh, well.

You could get an extension cable with a right-angle connector on it. Someone (I don't remember who) previously posted this store as a potential place to get such a cable.
