Anyone retrofit navi yet?

I got some pricing on the speedo and screen, its retail $750ish. I wonder what I'd need to get it working fully. Hmm. Any ideas?

Just put a Poineer AVIC D3 in my mini cooper S coupe. Took 2 days worth of work to get it to fit and I had to give up my defrost bevel motor to make room. I'm quite pleased with the install and my defrost vent blow air all the time now which I like. Previously defrost only worked in high mode and now it blows at whatever setting I have.

You really need to be comfortable in disassembling your mini and making a few cuts in the plastic with a die grider if you want a double din installed. Otherwise you can go with the single din but it will cover your fuel gauge and oil gauge when the screen is open.

I couldn't find anyone that would install the double din in a Mini for me so I did it myself. Not an easy task...

Dude infidel, your 2002 MCS is a whole different animal than the R56. Especially when it comes to the center stack/speedo setup.

Yep, I've been compiling some part numbers and I'll probably look into getting the numbers within the coming months, I've done some preliminary adding up and its going to be at least $2k, and theres a decent bit of wire routing and re wiring to do, its not terrible but it does involve taking the entire dash out and replacing the front wiring harness. Honestly, I'm going for performance first, the navi can come a few months later.

Holy crap! 2 grand to add the factory nav? Why not just buy a Nuvi and sink $1500 into something more, um, worthwhile?

My first possible retrofit will be automatic AC because I need it for the navi, theres no part number of a non auto ac bezel for the dash, so that'll be first. I'll keep everyone informed as usual.

have fun!

Why, what does the auto AC have to do with the Navi?. BTY, I have them both.

i would like to retro fit a inCarPc into the mini and use the Navi screen position as a touch screen. Then i could run everything in my computer. Get a USB DAQ and some potentionmeters and i could have real time suspension data :P

This is what we need here in N.A.:

It would also be nice to have the mounting adapters that these nav systems have in Japan. I wonder if we can order them as spare parts?

hey a96bimmerm3 Do you happen to have the price just for the nav bezel without the nav screen and just the gas, seat belt, and door indicator. Planning on putting a 7inch lcd screen in place where the factory nav screen goes.

I was going to do that too.... I got a price of around $750 from the dealer WITH the screen, I couldn't get a price without. Not so bad though... The screen probably has rgb inputs and might be a resistive panel. Not sure though. I might go this route also when some cash is freed up.

Have fun!
