Electrical HID problems
I want the easiest/cheapest way possible. Do you have instructions? ideas?
thanks
They won't work....but you can just buy the cheap ebay kits and they just plug and play in the current housings....so you would just have to find a place for the ballasts.
This of course will leave you with lights that don't really work well and may shine glare into oncoming traffic (although less likely in the fog light housings). It may also pose melting issues....though people have done this and reported no issues thus far.
If you want truely functioning lights, you will need to custom fabricate a mount and protection system to house projectors down there. Foglight projectors are hard to come by, but they're out there.
thanks thats alot like what mine looked like with my stock halogen headlights.
Compared to the earlier pic of someone's halogen housings with HID bulbs....you can see much more glare above the "cutoff line". The cutoff line is also much less crisp

Speaking of glare, I bought some OEM 04 xenons, and the guy I bought them from sent me D2S bulbs instead of D2R. The glare is awful, and there is no focus to the light. The cutoff is worse than my halogens, and they blind everyone.
So, FYI, get D2R bulbs for reflector xenons, and D2S for projectors. Not sure if that will help with the glare from some of these retrofit setups I see.

Well technically these aren't retrofits.....retrofits are when you place the projector from another car into the halogen housing.....not just placing xenon bulbs in a halogen housing, that's just ghetto.
ehhh maybe a little...but not much. The reflector bulbs are still made for the HID shaped reflectors....putting them in the halogen reflector is still gonna give you an ugly cutoff.
umm ok...this "ghetto" installer has not had ONE vehicle flash me b/c of the lights so im thinking there is no glare like everyone is saying or id would be getting flashed all over that place. i dont mean by girls, thats another story
The "ghetto" way of putting hids in a reflector type halogen housing will never produce the correct lighting cutoff and proper focus. I believe it has to do with the length of the bulb and the source of the light. Halogens come from filament and HIDs comes from an arc. I'm sure you can find the more technical details doing a google search. On the other hand, I've seen some clean cutoff lines from projector halogen housings with hids in them. An example would be my friend who has an integra. My guess is that the projector has an cutoff line built into the projector housing.
I have a '08 mini cooper d and was planning on passing from those pasè halogen lights to a nicer HID.
A friend of mine has the same car and had a lot of problems with the HID kit... Could anyone give me a few pointers?
