"True" Hardwiring of a Radar Detector?

Ok - yes - I read the three threads about he radar detectors in the R56/Electrical mods.

What I was looking (and it is hard to see from inside) is that in the ceiling of the car - right in front of the mirror - there is a "nick"/hole in the ceiling/headliner. I presume that is for the electrical/autodimming mirror power and/or the garage door opener (I have neither option). That seems to be the ideal place to exit a power cable to the behind-the-mirror mounting of a radar deector. And - if there is a place to tap power for the garage door opener/electro mirrors - for sure there should be a place to tap current for the radar detector.

And now the question: did someone remove the ceiling/headliner of the car? How easy is to remove it and access the space between the roof and the ceiling/headliner (the car's "attic"?). Any pictures would be appreciated.

MMM

(yes - this Q has wider implications - some other stuff might find its place there - Garmin nuvi mic/antenna, XM antenna cables and so one.)

I got switched 12v from the cigarette lighter, as I was worried that the +12v in the light cluster would not be fused heavily enough for the V1, Sirius, etc. I then ran the V1 flat telco cable up the A pillar, behind the rubber weatherstrip.

If you want to gain access to the cig. lighter leads, take out the two torx screws in the cupholders, and then pull the console up. Tap into the two leads going to the lighter, using 3m wire taps. The only problem with this source of switched power, is that the circuit only has power when the car is running. When the key is in the slot, but the engine is not running, there is no power to this source.
