Drivetrain Replacing MCS wheels and tires
I need to replace my 17" runflats and wheels, two were damaged. The insurance co.is paying for them or I may take the $ and purchase different tires and wheels.Suggestions for affordable alternatives.I'm not happy with the harsh ride and weak handling of my current setup.I must do something quickly,I'm in Cincinnati.I serched wheels/tires and found only too much info.
Do you care to share the details on how the tires and wheels got damaged such that your insurance carrier is covering replacement costs? I would also be interested in what the quote was per tire/wheel?

His, Chile REd all over / Hers, EB UJ on top.

you will be happy with any 16" normal tire. I just replaced my 17" runflats and my
new 16" normal tires are so much softer to ride on. The run flats are a mini USA suck along with mitch PR effort. They talk but provide no manuals or help.

Look at Randy's site. He has a nice selection in several different price ranges.

Change to light 16" wheels and NON-runflats. Much better ride and the smaller diameter is like adding about 7 hp. Looks a little goofy at first w/o lowering springs but you get used to it quickly. They look great with the springs.
I should have bought the AK Monzas. They are cheap and light and look MUCH better on a car than they do in any picture. With the money you save you can have them powder coated to any color you want (like gunmetal) and make a personal statement for a little more than a grand for the whole package. AK needs a new marketing director.
If its a low milage toy and you don't mind buying a set of tires for the winter, go with the Falken Azenis Sports. They are wild. Otherwise there are a lot of good high performance tires out there. Check out what other people have.
Have fun with it as it is a big ticket item that makes a significant difference in ride, handling and looks if you do it right.

I totally concur with BlueMCS. I sold the runflat Pirelli's mounted on the HEAVY S-Lites and replaced em with the Monza wheels and Falken Azenis that Randy sells. I'm totally pleased w/what I got for the $$$ spent. I chose the white ones over the silver, and they are a difficult proposition to keep clean. But, hey, you only go around once and I wanted something that REALLY looked sharp!
A suggestion: whatever wheels you purchase, put a good, heavy coat of wax on em before you install as this will make cleanups much easier.

I concur, the Monzas really look great on the car, especially if you have a white roof/mirrors and you go for the white Monzas.
Looks like they will be easier to clean than the v-spoke 16" wheels at any rate!
With my Monzas I got Falken Azenis tires in 215/45R-16 (compared to stock tire size of 195/55R-16) and they really look great. The wider tires give the car a much more aggressive look, and are much grippier than the stock tires too

I just had to chime in with a "check out this" link also;

The Team Dynamics Pro Race 1 and the Centerline RMP are very light and look great. Prices on the TD wheels are great, and they offer many color options.
I have the Monzas on my car with 215/45/17's and have not had any wheel well rubbing or anything. Since I live in Ohio (crappy weather), I threw on some Yokohama Avid H4''s.
Hope this helps.

I've got a set of 18" Centerline RPMs (sorry OutMotoring, i would've bought from you, but I got mine 6 months ago...) and I think they look great. I'm actually having a bit of a finish problem with them now, where they're getting slightly speckled (sorta like a slight pepper color to them), but I think i must've had a bad set of wheels. They're light, and stylish, and compared to SSR or Volk, downright cheap!!

What are the weights on the Pro Race 1 and 2. Are the Pro Race 2s available in 16x7 yet? It makes some mention to it on your site.

The Pro Race 1 is available now in many finishes. The 15x7 weighs 13.2 lbs. The 17" weighs in at 17lbs. I need to check into the availablility of that wheel in a 16".
The Pro Race 2 - 15x7 weighs in at 12.2lbs, the 16" (not ready for a couple months) should weigh 13.7lbs and the 17" (again, not ready for a couple months) at 15.4lbs.
I spoke with Team Dynamics USA last week and they were running "first offs" of the Pro Race 2 in a 16" and the 17" would be cast in the next few weeks. Since they are manufactured in England, USA will not see any for a few months- after they have worked out any bugs. The weights they supplied are based on prototypes and/or computer generated (PRO-Engineer) models using the proper material weight specs to figure actual production weights based on material wheel volume. Are'nt computers great!!
The Centerline RPM is a great wheel also, but they sure do cost a bundle. They also have lots of nooks and crannies that like to store dirt (especially in white) The design is basically the Pro Race 2 with one more spoke.

Check out ebay. They have lots of brand-new take-offs for sale. I got a set of the very light brand new 7-holeys from the base Cooper for only $200.
I don't care for the S-lites (too heavy) but, if you bought another full set of them, you'd already have a couple of spares for the next time you hit those potholes!

Won't this make your rates go up!? I ruined a wheel a couple weeks ago and just sucked it up and bought a new one. I ordered a new wheel and I had the yoko avs (originally $110) replaced for only $14 at discount tire. It was covered under their standard prorated road hazard.

Will someone help OUTMOTORING to enable their signature to link to their very nice website?

Listen to mini4usa, he's got it right. Unless you really like the look of 17s, get a set of 16s. Try to go forged if you can. If you're on a limited budget you may not want to shell out the $$ for forged wheels, but they are stronger, hence they are also usually lighter since less material has to be used.
For tires, go for 205/50s. The Yoko AVS100s are the best for the $, but I don't think they grip as well or are as durable as Dunlop SP5000s. You may want to try the non-runflat version of those.
