I just got my mcs - what a great car. And - this site has been loads of help. I'm ready to start tinkering with it, and I think my first change will be the intake. I know from reading here that there are several very good ones (alta, maddness, etc). My only concern is cleaning the motor. I like to periodically wash the motor, just to keep it looking good. After changing the intake, the filter is exposed. So - how do you clean the motor?

just be carefule that you don't hit the intake with de-greaser
the last time i did my engine compartment, i cleaned and re-oiled the intake, as well

 

Just wrap the intake with a plastic bag.

Related question - how often do you clean and oil your filters?
The packaging on my Rogue intake suggested cleaning every 50k miles which seems to be a very long time!

 

Most manufacturers that have oiled filters actually claim that a small amount of dirt helps in the filtration process and cleaning and oiling them prematurely may decrease the life of the filter.

Me personally? Once a year the filters come out and get cleaned.
