How to adjust Magnaflow tip clearance?

Just installed a Magnaflow cat-back on my MCS 'vert. For the most part, it fit up well; but, the 3.5 inch tips are a little too close to the cutout on the bottom of the bumper valance (I think they should hang a little lower). I'm worried that the tips will begin to melt the plastic.

Since the racetrack portion of the system is all one piece, there doesn't seem to be much room for adjustment. The only idea I have at this point is to place some sort of spacer/washer/shim, etc. between the hanger bracket and the underbody, in order to lower the muffler/tip section.

Time to tap the wisdom of NAM...

If you bend the hangers in slightly it lowers the tips.

I think I used 5/16 fender washers on mine. Only used them on the drivers side, inside and outside mounts. Still had to bend the outside hanger a bit to get the tips centered good and clear up a cold rattle that developed after I put in the washers. Used 6 on the outside (3 per bolt)and 4 on the inside (2 per bolt).

I adjusted mine by bendng the hangers. Just be careful in supporting the welds.
If you have 1/4" of clearance you're good.

I just had my tips cut off and they will be reinstalled this weekend. But that was to clear the aero kit back bumper.

I just let mine self-clearance a bit. hehehehe. Only melted a small amount of the skirt.....Depends on how **** you want to be about it though....the above suggestions are good....I do have an '05 and fitted the 02-04 exhaust so it was a bit more of an issue to try and fix it....

Can you (carefully) bend the hangers with the system in place, or does the exhaust have to be removed?

I would remove it, you don't want to damage the mounts. They can take a lot of weight, I have hung off my exhaust trying to get something to fit during the install, but it takes a lot to bend the hangers and you would damage something on your mini before they bent.

I took mine into a muffler shop and it was $10 to get it perfectly centered.

Thanks for all the advice; you guys are great! I added 5/16 inch washers under the inside hanger on one side (3 on each bolt), and I replaced the two outer hanger-rubbery-things with the slightly longer ones from Auto Zone. I did not bend the hangers -- didn't want to disassemble the exhaust. Everything's good now.
