A Lucky Dog Tune ... 227WHP, 188lb/ft TQ !!!
Here is a tune done last week by Lucky Dog. Previous tunes have varied depending on the Dyno. Previously in the same week the car made 194 hp on Helix's Mustang in the same week under similar conditions as it made 237 HP on a Dynojet. After Helix's reconfiguration it made 216 HP, which is a lot for a s/c only mcs on the Helix dyno.
At the start of this tune the car dynoed at 218 hp with the BBR software. Lucky Dog was able to raise the hp a bit but did a great job in raising the torque curve. John is committed to a high level of worksmanship was able fine tune Cosmic Purple.

With the 400cc injectors fuel was not a problem. The limiting factor was clutch slippage. Current clutch is SPEC 3+. John is able to adjust parameters up to 6900 RPM. The dyno here shows 7200 RPM. The rev limiter which was set by BBR is set at 7800. John wasn't really tuning for HP. I'm sure if we revved higher the numbers wouldv'e been higher. After speaking with John i no longer think revving up that high is of that much value because of where the TQ curve is.
This approach may be the missing link to maximizing the M62 project.
Anyway, the car feels really nice and pulls a lot stronger. Peace!

To tune it's about $150/hr. It took 2.5 hrs. so...$375. It was 8 or 9 pulls on the dyno to bring it up to where it is. After the base run he loaded some software and was able to change different parameters after each run. He couldv'e probably tweaked it a little more. Chose to stop there. One of the previous runs created a little more TQ. Interesting process. Lots of patience.
188 or 168
Just wonder, the header says 188for tq and chart says 168tq. Is there a convertion for something I do not know, or just a finger on wrong key?
Impressive numbers!

Congrats... very nice....
John and i have been talking about a tune but John does not want to tackle the Spider at the Ddragon and I do not realistically know when i can get the car to his shop.....
Ii do believe in LDG and think this is the best route to tuning that Ii know of....
It is only a matter of time .....
Now that I have the car running well and at 225/191 whp/tq I don't feel a need for more power ... the car is prently strong for my style of driving (no drag strips) and concentrating on fine tuning the car

My tuning philosophy is a bit different than most. I'm not after high hp numbers at the expense of driveability and torque output. I know that this approach hurts me as far as internet bragging goes but anyone who has driven one of my tunes will tell you that the car is very crisp and pulls very strong. In just about every car that I have tuned, if I were to have increased the rpm cut off point a couple of hundred rpms, say 7200 instead of 7000, the hp numbers would have been even higher by 10 or more. The torque, however, would have not increased. One of the main reasons that my method has been so effective is that it is conceived from an understanding and respect for BMW's original intent and design. That being said, any effective modification to engine ve can be maximized with a proper tune and vehicles that have had significant changes to their base ve are performing at a suboptimal level without that recalibration.

You don't have to drive. You may not realize but LDG and DMH work together and we're in Tewksbury, NJ.
That torque curve is really something.
On the chart why did you chop off the lower RPM at 2900? Is that the start of your RPM range of interest? And is that torque bucket at ~3300 normal? Any idea why it is there? Any idea how to get rid of it? Do you want to get rid of it?

I've had an Alta and the water to air. They are about the same. The water to air system is a little more complicated. At 1st John @ LDG praised the water to air and now says it doesn't hold enough water. He now promotes a LDG air to air that's larger than stock. At this point, it's not going to change. The system maintained the IAT's at the same temps on all pulls. It was a 60 degree day and LDG has some pretty nice fans. So, it was not an issue in this tune.
