Another great product, Peter. Keeping the underhood heat under control is not an easy task, but you seem to have a pretty good handle on it. Excellent job!

I am still curious if this heat reduction will have a measurable performance effect (in general and specifically as it would apply to NA Coopers). Maybe the good Dr. would be willing to take a guess.

I think this is more about transitions

than power overall. By transitions I mean from slow speed to high speed. It looks to minimize heat soak in the upper engine compartement. When you start moving (or speeding up), the underhood temps are lower so there will be less heating of the intake parts.

If you were on a road coarse with constant high speeds, I don't know if it would do much, but for a street driver with stop and go traffic, I'd expect a bit crisper response as you start up from slow speeds or rest. It will also depend on the intake.

Landing in SFO... I actually have a company off-site mtg in Vegas on April 2nd and 3rd. As much as I love our MINI, I just want to get home Matt. The heat/humidity of Singapore & Malaysia, many flights, over-night train rides... Relatively, at least Taiwan feels cool now...

Like yourself, I have a ceramic-coated header, but with what heat that still emanates from it, this should do a nice job at rejecting it...

Civilian input.

No fancy graphs.

Note that the 1st "after" temps will be skewed due to a certain dummy stopping for breakfast in the way to the office today and forgetting to take the temp readings I put them in anyway so we could see how the heatsink issue changes some of the readings. I will get a better "after" reading for us soon. 1st rain in weeks here in ATL just started. May be tomorrow or Tues but I will try get more realistic #'s.

Built my rear seat delete, oil/ filter change, drained OCC, rotated tires, installed heatshield all yesterday. Maybe .5hr total on the shield counting in looking for deepwell 8mm socket in bottom of tray. Bar was off for oil change already. Will have to remove or at least move one side to change oil. I'll let you know in about 6weeks on that part. WEAR GLOVES to install, fiberglass will itch like a #$%

Is the aerogel sleeve made of fiberglass weave?
It would be heat safe wouldn't it?
I saw the product at AMVIV and it didn't feel like fiberglass weave.

M7?

Tiny little fibers in the material edges. Assume they are left from the mfg/cutting/ fitting process. If I had not been so tired, I would have noticed them and put on some gloves. Commom sense or lack of kinda thing.

So far still happy with it. Was a bit concerned if the airflow change might trap more heat low or against the firewall and heat up the floor board, but not that I can tell so far. But, hey, I'm no tech nor did I sleep at Holiday Inn last night.
