Aquamist Water Injection

Since the eom IC can be overwhelmed in higher state tuned cars, I was wondering whether anyone has or considered using water injection like the Aquamist systems on the minis. Thanks in advance

p.s. sorry if I missed some thread but I tried seaching without much success.

Yes...

There are some who have systems that they like. Alta has released a system based on the Aquamist progressive... I guess you could build it yourself, but Alta did a nice job of packaging things together.

There are also diverter sprayers. Alta makes on for the stock IC as well as thier aftermarket ones, and M7 has one for the DFIC they sell as well.

Thanks herbie - I had a look and they've got some fairly comprehensive systems and are well priced. Thanks for the tip

I just picked up a system from Coolingmist that installs in the boot. Going to do the install later this week (once I figure out where/how) to tap the nozzle.

I am going to install it tomorrow most likely....

Snow also says not to spray before the s/c, so that leaves me scratching my head.

I could dill a hole in the intake hose and spray into that, but not sure that is a great idea...

I will probably dyo down here. Maybe we can convice Leo to get off his **** and dyno "justacooper"

There are several locations to try...

Befor the TB is easiest, but the stuff will go through the SC and get churned pretty bad, then through the IC, then into the motor. One book I read really liked this because the little bit of water made a better rotor-case seal and upped volumetric efficiency a bit. If you do it after the SCbut before the IC, you squirt it into the hottest air and may vaporize the most, lowering temps but displacing oxygen with steam, and if you squirt it after the IC, you'll probably carry the most droplets into the chambers, not displacing as much air with steam. What's best? I have no clue as I haven't tested any. Search around. I think JLM did testing in the past on it. But I'd love it if you tried them all and let us know what you find out.... Mayby misfitoy already did?

Matt - I few of the local guys at VWVortex/Australia use the meth/water injection with quite some success on their track cars. They were recommending spraying after the ic as this had (in their opinion) the most turbulent airflow allowing greater dispersion & vapourisation.

one of the locations I have been considering is actually the bottom on the outlet side of my alta i/c - becuase it is easier to tap and I can hide the line...

I'd love to try them all, but dont want a million holes/plugs in my setup

you could not only do one after the i/c but two in parellel . one on either side to insure you're getting it to all the cyl. just go smaller on each nozzle so you don't use too much . just a thought.

OK.. i am a dummy.. I am "meaning " the exit horn, where you are talking TampaMCS. I am going to remove the i/c and see if there is any room , if there isnt then the outside of the exit horn...

Sorry to jump in but I have been thinking about this.

I have the DFIC which tankfully has the option to tie in without drilling any holes. Which side would you do and why?

This is definitely an area that I have no expertise in so I will not profess to have any real knowledge.

thanks for any help.

Great job ! It looks like the kit was $ 369 including the tank , is that correct? Man that is deal compared to the other systems I have seen on here. You have to give us a report on the results as soon as you have it dialed in. Is the amount of coolent a fixed deal or do you select what you want?

It is fixed, IE, what your pump puts out, it delivers, the $369 deal is not the progressive system.

I am going to tune it down to come on at 8psi tomorrow and see how it goes.

Excellant, please let us know how it turns out. What was the ball park figure for your setup if i might ask.

I talked to one of their techs this am (who read my thread since I posted a link to their site ) and he confirmed my thoughts that the clicking was the internal pressure switch cycling the pump to protect it (aka doing what it is supposed to.)

I also ordered this peice, the clog/water water flow nozzel:
http://www.coolingmist.com/detailmain.aspx?pid=05

I added this so I can see when water is flowing, as when I am under boost, the car is too loud to tell if the pump is running...
