What are the clamps for in front of the mufflers just ahead of the split?

Steve:

Take a look at this photo. The "Y" joins the mufflers at the point where the clamps are installed.

Nice looking Exhaust! I don't know if its the angle of the picture or maybe its just my OCD kicking in but the tips seems to be misaligned, right?

It looks like the system bolts directly to the car instead of being hung by the hangers. How does this affect any expansion/contraction issues?

Hello GT6,

This system bolts directly to the factory muffler upper brackets, this way you do not have to mess with the rubber hangers, cuts the install time in half.

Thanks Victor, I can see that now in the second picture. I guess I was concentrating too much on the third picture and totally missed it. I agree that it would help the install time immensely, that was always one things I hated messing with when swapping exhausts.

Looks nice, how does it sound? I've already ditched my Milltek system, too loud and drony for my tastes.

It sounds great,

very quiet at idle, no droning at cruising speeds, great sound under acceleration

That is a sound clip of the same system, sorry for the bad quality.

There is also a resonator available, for the customers who would like it a little more discreet.

In my opinion, this exhaust sounds beautiful, and adds a lot of torque.

Victor

Very nice sound. It's great to hear something being driven around the streets and not just out in the parking lot.

That's my MINI in the OP. Have been at AMVIV and away from computers.

The tips were misaligned...Victor corrected that not long after the install.

I love the Larini...great burble...low notes...nice at street speed...not too loud on the freeway...my FAVE mod of all (so far)!

Will have to catch up a bit on my NAM threads...hope I answered your questions...oh yeah...it's an '06 S!

I guess they all are. Not only are the tips misaligned, but the Larini factory cut each at different angles (plus the tips have chips and dings) and they look like ****. I had mine installed by Mini Works in July and have been very disappointed with how it looks, but not performance.

UPDATE / EDIT: Apparently the Factory is trying to make good, hopefully this will will be fixed within a few days.

Mini Works promised to fix the problem, but it is now October and no good news yet.

I'm not sure why they are so gung-ho about this system, I have nothing but regrets now... I should have gone with a different exhaust and installer.
and i remember him selling those crooked angel cut tips for lower prices on the marketplace few weeks back..... Hmmmmmmmmmm better check on that man
