Drivetrain Do These Performance Mods Actually Make Our Cars Faster?
Yes.
I went to the dragstrip tonight at Englishtown, NJ and only got in two runs due to rain. My second run was:
14.719 @ 95.75 mph
60-ft: 2.479 s
The launch wasn't as good as I wanted, but the trap speed is there. I did some data logging and recorded a 0-60 time of 6.3 s and 0-100 mph time of 15.9 s (measured by the average rear wheel speeds - corrected for my tire size).
Note: I have less than $1500 in mods and these numbers spank the JCW figures.
Pulley $300
Exhaust $600
Chip $300
Intake $260
Expression the face of a '03 Civic Si driver, who just ran 17's: Priceless

6.3 seconds! Wow! That's very impressive considering the "basic" mods. So when's the throtle body and port & polished head going on Andy?
I'd love to see a Cooper S go 0-60 in the 5's even 5.9 would count. How can we trim that time by another half second? NOS doesn't count.

Thats good to hear Andy thanks for the info. I have been waiting for someone to post some sort of numbers. I was actually just thinking about that tonight. So do you have the madness, magnaflow, pulley ? or a diff combo? A cpu chip huh, didnt think there was any good ones out yet. Thanks again for the post, my mouth is watering. Have no mods yet but they are coming soon - only 3200 miles on it so far
In order to verify whatever answer you come up with you will need to do many more runs.
You should also give yourself credit because in my book it is not the car but the driver that makes the bigger difference in getting respectable times. Yes driver skill does count- maybe more than the mods do.
So the question then becomes:
If we all chip in to get Andy a John Cooper Works kit modified MCS, what kind of times would we then see from him?
Mod on. Have some fun.

Thats GREAT work Andy! I too would have like to see the face...Realizing that we are speed limited to 135 what, in your opinion would the top speed be, or do you have the limiter deactivated and have a top speed figure.
Have a GREAT day!!

I have the Helix/P&D pulley, MTH chip, Magnaflow exhaust, and ALTA intake. Two other MCS were there that had Helix/P&D pulley, Stock ECU, and BMP Intake. These guys have more MCS dragging experience than me, but they got:
1fastmcs:
14.921 @ 95.13 mph
60-ft: 2.500 s
minimes:
14.675 @ 94.43
60-ft: 2.396 s
A trio of quick MINI's is a sight to behold.

Good point BUT...
Keep in mind that professional drivers for all the major car magazines weren't able to get better than mid 7 second times for a stock MCS. I'm sure they have at least the skill and experience as Andy if not greater. And those same people couldn't do better than 6.7 sec with the JCW kit. So I don't think it's the driver at all in this case.

Here's some purdy graphs from my best run:

I forgot to mention my $375 including shipping used wheel/tire combo: 16x6.5" Enkei RPO1 with 205/45-16 Kumho 712
The MTH chip seems to work as well as other solutions so far, but doesn't yield much power. No need to even look at the ECU, just plug in a cable between your PC and diagnostic port in the car:

BTW, my 60-ft time was pretty poor and can certainly be improved upon. I'd hope that professional testers could routinely cut 2.3s or better.
My race weight was 2820 lb with me in it (2612 without me).
