Drivetrain Gatorback VS. NAPA
Gatorback VS. NAPA
I about to have my reduction supercharger pulley installed. No, like in 2 hours!
I have a NAPA belt and a Gatorback belt. At first, I was told that the gatorback is a little louder, (which I don't mind, I actually prefer,) but I just noticed today that it says "The quiet belt" on the packaging.
So what is it? Which will produce the better noise?
Thanks,
William
P.S. If it makes any difference, its a 2005 MCSa

Ok, the person that installed said he was unable to use either of the belts I provided. I would like to change it my self. How would I go about doing this?
+1. If you like the whine, you will love the whine with the Gatorback!
And, for those still on the fence about whether to go with a Gatorback belt, please post your impression of the sound after the Gatorback.

If it was the wrong size, then what belt was used? Depending on who supplied the pulley, they will include a list of belt numbers that work with the pulley (at least Alta does). You need to get the Gatorback belt that is on the list.
Belt installation is pretty straightforward. You will need a belt tensioner tool. Here is a link to one vendors product; there are others, but you will need a way to release the tension on the belt.
MiniMania Belt Tension Tool link:

Here is a Cliff Notes version of the belt replacement process: Use the belt tensioner tool to release the tension on the belt. Then slip off the old belt and replace with the correct belt and use the belt tensioner tool to compress the belt tensioner while fitting the replacement belt in place. If you want the detailed version, I believe it is at the following link:

Go to item 15 for removing the belt tension. You don't have to remove the tensioner (or any of the other motor mounts, etc.) because the pulley is not being removed. You just need to get access to the belt tensioner (and of course, the belt).
The critical item is to get the correct size belt.
