Drivetrain Alta or K&N CAI ???
Alta or K&N CAI ???
OK I need your input here give me your advice on CAI's is it going to be the ALTA or the K&N Typhoon? Also give me reasons why you chose the one you have please. Photos always welcome... love to look under the hoods. Thanks in advance.
If CARB requirements are a concern, the K&N is the way to go. If not, pick one of the others that gives you 3-5 hp.
i had the k&n and sold it. Its not much of a COLD air intake, its open to the hot air under the hood. The air inlet from the front is kind of "thrown" towards it from a distance, not piped directly into an enclosure where the filter is at.
I have the k%n and only noticed a slight difference in power, could have been all in my head though....im retrospect, i would have liked to have the alta intake instead.
Now im giving in to my curiosity and gonna try the m7 AGS
If u want my used k&n, let me know.

The K&N CAI ends up being an HAI, and an expensive one at that. I got the ALTA, made my own top for $4 and insulated it so its a wee bit quieter when cruising (top makes it louder when I step on it and the intake is unaffected by heat soak for a good 10 min of stand still.
Here are some photos of my modded intake.

I have the K&N Typhoon and like it because it is CARB approved. But to get the most hp out of it I modified it by enclosing the filter in a box and added heat shielding to the tubing going from the filter to the throttle body.

K&n
K&N all the way. I actually have mine connected directly to the TB. I took off the stock tubing so that the "cold" air would run right into it. It works great for me and I honestly feel a good difference... not mention, who doesn't like to hear the sound of the air getting "sucked" in?!
I'll show pics tomorrow. By the way, it's way easy to do and you can of course easily replace the stock back if you want or need to later for whatever reason.

Longboard: Is that the way the M7 diverter came, or did you bend the verticals out like that? I wonder how the tops of the diverter seal against your bonnet and what happens to the all that air that goes on either side of the IC? I'm sure that most of the air going in the M7 DF scoop is going into your IC, but there seems to be air escaping around the sides, too.
cheers,
cheers,
Looks like the Alta is the one to go with --- I just realy like the looks of the K&N -- but I'd rather have the performance over the bling -- Thanks and keep the info rolling in.
When I got my MCS, I installed a K&N air intake and thought it was good... until I decided to sell it and get an Alta CAI...
The sound itself is amazing! A lot better than K&N. It's louder and a nicer.
The look can't ne compared! Alta is the only choice!
I recently added the top cover. It seems to make it sound a bit louder.

They're tough to compare because the bling is definitely with the K&N Typhoon. While it may not perform as well as the Alta it still performs quite well. The last added benefit is that is a lot quieter than the Alta. For some of us we don't want more noise. Go figure.
Yet another ALTA vote.
If you love the supercharger whine, and simply cannot get enough of it, there are really only two options: 1.) The ALTA, (easy install, less expensive), 2.) The m7 Air Gain System (or AGS), which is more expensive, and a much more involved installation, but offers a really wicked-loud whine.
But I have not regrets with my ALTA. I love it, and recommend it.
