Teaser: Really Big Hole scoop for DFIC

Thanks to M7, I have been playing with a new scoop for the DFIC. This is not a retail proposition, just an exercise in seeing how much air can be provided to the DFIC. You've all seen my diverter before, and here's a teaser of the new scoop--unfinished and unpainted, but fitted.
For comparisons:
Original M7 Ram Intake

M7 Direct Flow scoop:

RBH DF scoop:

I haven't measured, but I'm guessing 2x the Ram area and at least 1.5x the DFIC.
mmm, let's see if I can feel it with the scooper-pooper?
I will post finished scoop when the body work and paint is done.
cheers,

Looks nice but I would guess it works better the OEM M7. It directs the air and take a large amount of air and forces it into a smaller area. To me this seems to create more cold air pressure on to the aftercooler. I'm installing a Palo Uber scoop. It is big like a STI scoop. It graps huge amount of air and crams it into a small area. Kind of like putting your thumb over a garden hose, it creates more pressure.
Just my thoughts.
Mario

Maybe if you started with a DFIC scoop, and just opened that up. Unless of course, you're like me, and you don't like the offset look of that scoop.

Looks like your design will work quite well.

I've seen your posts on this scoop. It looks like a *very small area* to me. Remember the M7 ram scoop is almost 2x the area of the OEM scoop, so mine is about 4x.
I'd guess that at 60+ mph, the pressure of air is enough to ram all the air into the DFIC that the rear of the cooler can handle. That's the next project: getting the air -out- of the DFIC!
btw, no cutting of the bonnet was needed.

Hmmm, interesting. I really dig the look of my DFIC scoop though. And I think we can all agree all these scoops beat the pants off the OEM scoop.

Has anyone considered leaving the driver side of the scoop open enough to force air into the new Webb RAF CAI as well as the M7 DFIC, allowing the hood scoop to do "double duty"?

One of the other NAMers did this with the OEM IC. He fabricated a diverter that split the air flow. From my reading over the last 18 mo.s here I'd guess that more air in and out of the DFIC has greater potential for benefit than a little bit of fresh air getting to the CAI. eg, the scoop that directs air down the serpentine path the front of the air box only has measurable flow in it over 50mph or thereabouts. So it's doing something, but not a lot.

cheers,

As much air as you can get...Everywhere.
Cooling the IC is may be #1 but underhood heat management is where it's at.
Your scoop looks like a keeper

Have you tried, NS ( no scoop )? Don't know how this would work with the DFIC, but there was a suprise with the Forge.....
