Alta CAI = Loss of torque?

Hi,

I recently (3 days ago) installed an Alta CAI on my 06 MCS and straight away it seemed to feel that the engine was not as "guttys" bellow 3k.

Unsure if this was just a bit of placebo I did a search around here and found some information about back pressure and the effects on low end torque with a “free-er” flowing engine (Intake, exhaust).

Has anyone else had this experience when installing a CAI or Exhaust?

P.S: I only have a CAI installed at the moment was looking at doing Cat Back, Pulley and ECU next.

Check the weatherstripping...

to make sure you're sealing with the hood, as hot air can negate the benefit of higher pressures at the SC inlet.

if you have the s, then a forced induction car has gain on both ends as far as loosing backpressure.

on NA cars decreasing backpressure ALOT will loose torque and you will gain top end.

When I ran from the headers/cat only I lost alot of tourque but gained alot of power in the higher rpms.

I dont think a cai would effect this that much though...

I noted the sane thing after insalling mine a few years ago.
Using the stock hose helped but I kept the Alta hose and worked with it.

As you nnoted, above 3K it gets better than stock was.

Mybe this is why the JCW Intake has a flap which doesnt open until you hit about 4K RPM's............just a thought.

Do a search under my name in this section. I had dyno runs before & after (I did also install other tubes), but I saw gains.

What came first, the CAI or the Tune ?

And was your MINI's ECU Tweeked WITH the CAI for this Dyno run that you saw gains ?

tune was first, this is the post where I installed the CAI "system" cai system here and yes it was still tuned with the ECU at this point.

So essentially you are talking about a totally different car, different engine, different forced induction system with a tune and you think your experience relates to the posters somehow?
It doesn't.

Reset the ECU and give the engine a day to get used to it. Sometimes the ECU senses something weird and cuts the gas some.

Yeah you should see and feel nothing but gains across the board. For sure check all of the connections at the T/B etc. Hit me up if you still feel something is amiss! Always happy to help if I can! Thanks for the business!
