Modded my JCW intake (no pics)

If you've taken apart the JCW intake before, what I'm about to share might make sense. If not, then it won't.

I took it off to clean/oil my ITG filter when I thought I'd have a look-see if I could keep the flap open all of the time (I know, I know, then why did I get it; bear with me).

I played with the flap for a while, and decided to take the vacuum thingy that controls the flap off. Once that was off, the flap comes off, leaving an open tube to the intake box. I covered the little hole that was left in the top with electrical tape. I don't know why, I just did. I taped off the vacuum line that used to go from the electrical gadget to the flap.

Once everything was hooked back up, I went for a spin. The butt dyno read an increase of exactly 0hp for this mod. The ear dyno registered more whine at lower rpm, but nothing obnoxious.

I'll probably put it all back together, but it was fun to tinker for the day. I've heard of people keeping the flap open permanently; how did you do that? I bet if I search I'll find it!

According to the above picture, it looks like i was right to cover the hole left by the vacuum mechanism since they covered it up as well (metal piece in the pic).

The only thing that concerns me is the vacuum line that leads to nowhere. Can this cause a problem or an issue?

If it isn't capped off or leaks then yes it will cause problems.

I taped the end of it, which isn't guaranteed to stay on. What types of problems am I looking at here? Nothing has happened yet.

Cap the hose off to prevent a vacuum leak. Find a small screw that you can put int the hose that fits tightly or get a vacuum line cap. Vacuum leaks can cause a car to run like crap.

I did this mod today; I removed the excess parts & taped the hole, plugged the vacuum line, cleaned my ITG filter... No change in performance but the supercharger is more audible sooner...

gone "flapless"

I did it last week. Removed the housing, removed the flap, replaced the housing.....still looks stock, all electrical 'n vaccum lines attached.. (added the K&N RU-3130 filter) All that is left in the way of the air flow is the small rod that activated the flap...which is now gone.

That's a better way to do it. Next chance I get, I'm going to put everything back but the flapper.

I've been enjoying the added noise in the last couple of days - this is a cool little mod
