M7 Air Plate Diverter

This is a very interesting, new piece from M7.
I always wondered how well the air flows through the front of a MINI. The APD gives direction to the airflow to help the efficiency of the radiator/cooling system. Pretty cool stuff...

The question is...cooper too? CVT too? (CVT has tranny fluid cooler right there).

Looks cool

Probably not a humongous difference, but what defines "significant" if it only costs 150? Every little bit helps

I imagine it will fit the Cooper 5sp, not to sure on the CVT. That is something Peter or Randy will have to chime in on.

Cool sig, Rally.

Don't see why not. Aren't the fascia mountings the same for Coopers and S's? The APD mounts to the studs that the AL2 bumper is mounted to the chassis.

How 'bout one out of stamped aluminum for $75? Must everything be made out of carbon fiber?

Yah, I'd go for a peice of aluminum. Adding the CF is more of a bling factor.

Good Morning....

We test fited the M7 APD on an S with a Moss style oil cooler and it fit
with no problems what so ever IE. it should work with a CVT equipped Cooper. Someone also PM'd me and asked if it can be painted, and the answer is a resounding yes, as the surface finish is perfect with no imperfections automotive paint will come out like glass. As for aluminum or other metals, the bottom line is if you wan't a perfect fit the piece has to be hydro formed
as the shape is fairly complicated. If CF is not to your liking have it painted to match your car......

Good morning Peter, the APD looks nice but where does it mount? To the plastic or to something more rigid? It's probably a stupid question but bear with me

Thx

If you look closely, there's two nuts on each side of the radiator, remove the nuts add the M7 APD tighten the nuts..... It will literally take less then three minutes, four if you don't know what your doing.

Yah, i just didn't know about bumper spacing etc...i noticed a few differences between bumpers when i did the switch.

I went out and looked at my engine bay, and I'm sure i can probably fit it without any problems, even with my CVT cooler.

I think the carbon fiber will be cool.
Like Peter said you can always have it painted.

Peter, do you have any close ups of the APD mounted?

I don't think you will see much with the hood closed.

I second that. Personally, I would avoid it just because it's made of CF. I'd like some nice polished stainless or aluminum to match my DFIC, please.

How about fiberglas. . .

So, if metal is out, how 'bout fiberglas for $75. Using carbon fiber adds manufacturing complexity (cost), but no functional benefit. (I wouldn't consider a 2oz savings of sprung mass with carbon a functional benefit.)

I think $100 would be a more realistic price point for fiberglass...
