Well, for starters, It's unlikely that you are going to notice much difference in the temperature of the coolant. That's what the thermostat is for, to maintain temperature. The APD should aid in recovery from heat soak, which occurs though may be transparent to most operators. There will be an increased efficiency with more airflow, and some people in hotter, more humid climates may feel the benefits in their AC being cooler faster.

If you drive for long distances in hot climates or at high speeds, I can certainly see the advantage. Racers and road warriors are the most likely to feel the effects of the increased efficiency.

Thanks for posting a close up. I see now that APD has a lip that sits on the bumper cover. Very nice!

Heyyy....wait a minute! The first picture we (Leapfrog and I)saw was a car with stock supercharger and air intake. The newer picture shows red parts, and a different intake! What's the story on the intake/air filter? This could be something else to buy!

from the look of it, red parts seems to be just painted...

as for the intake, its the M7 AGS

If you are referring to this pic from M7's vendor announcement...

it is a different car than the pic CooperSS posted of his car. Both cars have a DFIC,
CooperSS has an AGS(that kyriian pointed out) and red powder coated IC horns and intake manifold.
I don't see how you can spot the SC as it is buried pretty good.

The only fitment issue, I believe, is the with the automatics. I think Peter is checking on this.

I hope its not a issue. I'd like to have one of these once I get some issues handled.

In the event of a love tap...

Ah, the body of the diverter sits just above the bumper line with a lower lip that "seals" the area? If that's the case, it really is nice. I was wondering what would happen if someone gave your front bumper a kiss while parallel parking using the braille method. If the diverter sits above the bumper, light taps should allow the bumper to move without hitting it, no?

Correct. The bumper would move back away from the APD in the event of light tap.

"parallel parking using the braille method" -that is too funny, man.

What effect if any would this have on a mini-cooper (non-s)?

The effect will be similar on either application, MC or MCS. The airflow coming through the front won't just be left there to flow anywhere(path of least resistance). The APD will direct the flow to increase the efficiency of the cooling system.

Saturday night I was out for a spiritied drive. When I arrived home I parked the car in the drive way and went in. About an hour later I went to move the car into the garage. In doing so, I moved some coolant around(or so I figured) just enough to turn on the aux fan. The odd thing was the fan kept running after I left the vehical. It ran for about 5 min before I decided to take it out and see what was wrong. It shut off after about 5 blocks. I wonder if this would have prevented that...

APD has a new home and will be on it's way to Las Vegas tomorrow and the rest of MTTS for your viewing pleasure.

I am receiving the first batch shortly......

The Good news/Bad news is that the first batch is almost sold out, so I recommend anyone interested in the part, please call and we will do our best to get it delivered in a prompt fashion.

The response from MINI owners around the country was fantastic, as the first article was driven around this beutifull country during MTTS.

Hey Steve......I want my APD back

Quick response, thx
I'm already on "The List" just figured it would be less intrusive to ask for an update here, rather than bother you folks with an e-mail/phone call

You will get it back over my cold dead MINI! But really, I have an automatic I want to try it on first so we can say for sure it fits. The response from people along the MTTS route was very positive. My car never showed any increase in temp even on long steep grades in the West and the engine didn't get as dirty as my partner's when we drove through Ernesto.

So, how is the effectiveness of this mod going to be tested? We have the drawings/simulations from Will but these are not generated from data and observations. Is there a fluid dynamics person who can specify a test?
Keeping the engine bay clean is not sufficient for me to put down the long green for this part.

cheers,

Some people... I guess I'll have to measure the water temp. with it on and off. There will be lots of variables, though. Maybe the fact that it looks great and keeps the engine clean will be enough until we can get Dr. Obnxs to test one.
