just installed obx header w/ stock CAT into supersprint exhaust. Changed the mid-pipe to 2.5" to match the supersprint

the exhaust now smells weird... anyone have any idea why? the only thing I could think of is that the race header now flows more gas, thus "burning" my cat?

I would think your cat is prob gettin a tad hot, thus creating a little odor. You might have a leak somewhere, but you'd be able to hear that. I installed an aftermarket cat, and it produced a little bit of a smell too...it still does actually.

i'm not sure about a header, but after i installed my cat-back, it smelled like camp fire smoke coming out of my tailpipes for a couple of days. I think it is just the crap with which they line the insides of those pipes burning off. I actually have no idea, but that could be it.

Although I havent got a header on the MINI, I have changed many exhaust sytems and headers in the past. The smell is normal and will dissapear shortly. It is either manufacturing oils, or oils added to keep the flash rust down. I changed the muffler on my Pathfinder a few weeks ago, it still smells!

When we installed my Milltek, one of the guys started my S and let it run for about 10-15 minutes at idle. I asked why, and was told, "to allow the lacquer they put on at the factory to make it look appealing in the showroom to burn off". The explanation seemed logical to me, so I let the car run. The exhaust gives off NO ODOR now, but it was sure nasty as that crap was burning off.

me too, mine smells like burnt metal....

A cat (And even a regular exhaust) will smell for a little while after being installed. The cats are part of the equipment that is required to be broken in when the car is new.

If you installed a new cat with your header, that'd be what you're smelling. Give it a few weeks and 500-600 miles and it should go away, if it doesn't, you have bigger problems!

i've had the obx/supersprint for about 3 weeks now. I can say that it was probably the best bang for the buck. I bought the supersprint from a local socal shop that put it on ebay and i snatched for $400! Cant complain.

car is much much more responsive. acceleration is much better. I have a HAI that I havent had time to install yet, so im sure when i get more air INTO the engine, it will be even better. I'd recommend it to anyone! you cannot go wrong with the OBX, very high quality header... reminds me of some DC headers for my Acura back in High School...
