Chris,

I was wondering about the effect of the Detroit Tuned valve. Thought it doesn't make sense that the whistle would be from a slightly opened bypass at a higher demand level (the bypass would surely be closed) I'm willing to give the DT valve a try if it fixes the whistle!

Thanks,

Richard

not quite, it's air going past the throttle body butterfly at a certain angle. But when you put the VGS or RP system on it changes the pressure post TB so it doesn't whistle at the same time that it did with the stock system. It may have changed the time it used to do it, or maybe has eliminated it altogether (as you said).

FWIW, I have the DT BPV and I can still hear the TB whistle.

IT might be...

for you. OThers have said that the sift on "whistle point" based on these mods as made it effectively gone, others, not so. But the changes are cheap, and easy to try.

Now, one thing is for sure. These cars are complicated little beasts. If you want to mod them, and don't know how all these systems work, start with a book! There are two I reveiwed in the reviews section on tuning SC or boosted cars. Reading them will increase your understanding of how our cars work, and why certain mods work and others don't. It WILL save you $ to read one or both of them before spending $ on parts.....

I'm not saying this to be a ********, I know cars pretty good, but the Mini is my first blown car, and I sure did learn lots and lots and lots that has helped me with this car.

I agree...

these cars are definitely different. I always get jealous when I talk to people that look at me funny when I say my car pings, and they say 'That's funny, my car never does that'. They sure are funny little beasts.
